"My Father, Taylor Hanson": Book 7
Chapter 16

My wife and I had one of the best dinners we had in a long time, the food was excellent and the noise level was under 130 decibels. Usually we had one or two kids screaming and another whining while we were eating. This time we had a fire crackling and the sounds of each others voices. Nothing else was needed, no soft music, no TV, no anything.
After dinner, I convinced my wife to stay seated while I put the plates on the dinner cart and brought out the last course: peach melba. Normally something we wouldn’t eat at home. We each washed it down with another glass of champagne.
“Taylor,” Clare cooed with a smile on her face. I grinned. My wife stood slowly, leaning over me to touch my cheek with her finger. She lifted my chin, “go get comfortable, I’ll be right back.”
I watched her grab her suitcase and walk into the bathroom.
“You’re a married man, Taylor,” I whispered to myself, “are you supposed to be getting this excited.” I leaned my chin on my right knee and thought about it for a second. “Then again,” I said, a little bit louder, “you are 27 years old and in love with the most beautiful woman in the world, and that woman is your wife.” I rose to my feet quickly and unbuttoned my shirt; my tie had been discarded a long time ago. I laid down on the bed and closed my eyes. My heart was racing in my chest and I didn’t know why. I just couldn’t calm down. I was brought back to the memory of eight years ago in that very room on that very night. I had been so nervous and so scared at the same time. I knew I loved Clare, both then and now, but I was so nervous about being that intimate with her, however, when I was with her I could control myself. When I was alone, she made my heart race.
I didn’t have much more time to think about it, a few seconds later the bathroom door opened. She switched off the light in the room before opening the door so I could only see what the firelight, candles, and dim lighting would allow me. I saw her lightly lit figure walking towards me and felt the bed move as she knelt over me. I watched her eyes as our lips connected, felt her fingers undoing my belt. “Wow,” I exclaimed through my parted lips. She pulled away from my mouth, leaving me begging for more. I saw her smiling at me through the dim light, and was able to see her now more clearly. “Whoa...”
