Analyzing your dreams
What did you dream of last night? Analyze and find out what it means!
- You're flying
- Taking a difficult exam
- You're pregnant (this is only applicable for gals hopefully)
- You're being chased
- You're falling
- You're naked in public
- You're making love to/hanging out with/friends with a celebrity
- A loved one has died or you've died
You're flying
This dream conveys the sense of having your life under your own
control-- the wonderful feeling of being in the driver's seat. If
you're flying easily, high in the sky, it may mean you've set
realistic goals for yourself and have met them. If you can't get off the ground,
maybe what you're trying to do is too difficult. It's also important
to note that the flying dream allows you to get a different perspective
on your life, to see things at a new angle, and to perhaps regain your
balance.
Taking a difficult exam
You're taking a difficult exam and haven't prepared for it/can't
find the room/your pen or pencil won't write, etc. The "examination
dream" is shorthand for a wide range of dreams in which your level of
competence is being scrutinized or tested by a superior. So if you're
an actor, your "examination dream" might be about not being able to
remember your lines, or arriving at an audition on the wrong day. In
this dream, the spotlight is on you -- especially your skills and
knowledge.
You're pregnant (this is only applicable for gals hopefully)
Although it's more common in women, men also report having dreams in
which they are pregnant. For a woman who's concerned about whether or
not motherhood will be in her future, this dream may represent simple
wish fulfillment. But for others the beginning of something new -- a
job, a relationship, psychotherapy -- or the ending of something
important may symbolize new life, growth, and expansion to the
dreamer. The "baby" could also indicate creative work -- a writer could dream
of a new book, an entrepreneur a new business.
You're being chased
Metaphorically, the "being chased" dream may have to do with different
parts of yourself that are dying for attention. This interpretation
follows the Gestalt theory of dreams, in which each aspect of the
dream represents a part of the dreamer; integrating all the parts and
allowing the "ignored" parts to be acknowledged in some way is thought to
promote wholeness. It may also be that there's someone in your waking life
you feel is out to get you -- maybe a colleague at work who's unusually
competitive, or a friend or spouse you're having difficulties with.
You're falling
Because we use the word fall in so many ways -- nearly all of them
negative -- we may translate the idea into our dream life when we are
afraid of "losing our balance" or "stepping over the edge." This
falling dream is most likely to come up in situations where we're not
sure exactly where we stand and we become anxious about our ability to
maintain our place in the world. Interestingly, though, very few
people dream of actually hitting the ground; that's because we don't know
what it would feel like.
You're naked in public
Stripping away the clothing that tells others something about your
status in the world, you are revealing who you are at base. The
expectation for many dreamers is that people will be disgusted or
shocked by our nudity, but in most dreams people don't react
negatively or positively; they're more likely to overlook it or react very
casually.
You're making love to/hanging out with/friends with a celebrity
Generally speaking, celebrity dreams may indicate that you'd like to
be more affluent, perhaps increase your status in the world. Having sex
with a celebrity could indicate something as simple as wanting to make
love to someone more attractive than your real-life partner. As far
as sexual dreams are concerned, women are much more likely to be able to
identify their dream lover's face and the circumstances of the dream;
there's a great deal of personalization in women's sexual dreams. Men
are more likely to dream of physical attributes and a woman's
availability; his dream lover's face may not even be discernible.
Yellow
Dreaming about the death of someone who's alive most likely indicates
tremendous anger and hostility toward that person. If, on the other
hand, the person has died and you dreamed about them, ask yourself
what might have triggered it. It could be the anniversary of their death or
another benchmark like a birthday, but there are also other
connections your dreaming mind might be making that your waking mind wouldn't.
Perhaps there's a new situation in your life with which you need
guidance; for instance, you're dealing with the stress of buying a new
house and your Uncle Jack always had great advice about money. Some
dream researchers have also explored the idea that the dead
communicate with the living through dreams. A dream of your own death can usually
be looked at as a favorable dream -- not unlike a pregnancy dream. It
can symbolize a transition into a new part of your life and new
experience. Perhaps there's a part of you that is "dying" and that
you'd like to "cut off" to encourage growth.
