Soccer Organizations
Soccer is the most popular sport in the world and is highly structured
and organized throughout the world.
FIFA
The Federation International de Football Association (FIFA pronounced
"Fee-Fa"), is the international organization that governs soccer
throughout the world. Under the international body are six CONFEDS
(confederations) that adminster soccer in six geographical areas.
Beneath those organizations are national, state and local soccer
associations. FIFA establishes the "rules of the game" which are
followed in competitions from World Cup play to youth league soccer.
Note that colleges and high schools in the United States have
modified these rules.
USYA & USSF
The national soccer association in the United States is the United
States Soccer Federation (USSF), and its youth division is the United
States Youth Soccer Association (USYSA). These organizations promote
the game of soccer on a national level by sponsoring soccer matches
and tournaments and licensing coaches (A, B & C national licenses).
In addition, they sponsor teams to represent this country in
international games and tournaments. The USYSA provides liability and
medical insurance to its players, coaches and adminstrators.
MYSA
We play under the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association
(MYSA) which promotes the game of soccer on a state level by sponsoring
soccer matches and tournaments and licensing coaches (D, E, F & G
licenses). These tournaments and championships are held at the end of
the Spring and Summer seasons, in some cases, to select our representatives
to regional and national tournaments and competions.
NVYSL
The Nashoba Valley Youth Soccer League (NVYSL) is
affiliated with MYSA, and therefore, participation in tournaments
and championships sponsored by MYSA is open to our teams. This
also means that all players coaches, administrators and clubs
in NVYSL must register with MYSA and agree to abide by their and
USYSA rules and regulations. In addition, affiliation provides
members medical and liability insurance.
