In November of 1973, I arrived at Logan Airport in Boston, MA, No one was there to meet me, and my traveling experience to date had consisted of flying to Alabama for Basic Training. So there I was, baggage in hand, by myself, with absolutely no idea of how to get to Fort Devens. No uniforms in sight, no stern sergeant to load me onto a bus. I was on my own. Fortunately, there was a guy there named Craig Shelley, who, with a friend, had just seen another friend off on a flight. I hitched a ride with him into Devens, and he was good enough to show me where I had to go.

My room was in G company, the women's barracks. I shared it with 7 other women. We each had a bunk and a locker. The room was a pretty good size, and, unlike Basic Training, we had some choice in how it was decorated.
