Tatting is a type of knotted lace dating back to the 17th century. It reached its height of popularity during the second half of the 18th century. Because of its graceful movements, tatting was favoured by ladies of rank.
Tatted lace is made of double stitches created by a shuttle and formed into rings and chains. It is frequently combined with crochet and needle lace to create useful items.
The tatted lace collar shown above has inserts of needle lace and is made of 100% variegated cotton thread in shades of pink and rose. Click here for a closeup view of the pattern.
