Chapter 5: The Game

"Nick," Lindsay called after him, but all he did was stopped, turned around, stared at Lindsay's upset expression, and left.

"Let him go," Ryan told me.

"No." Lindsay said to Ryan and started to leave towards the door, but Ryan grabbed Lindsay's arm and held her back.

"Let me go!" Lindsay shouted struggling to get away.

Ryan was holding her arm pretty tightly and still wouldn't let go. "No." he yelled.

"I'm not yours anymore. You know it's over." Lindsay said while struggling to get away. She kept pulling herself harder and harder and finally broke away. Then she ran out of the theater and kept running without looking back as fast as she could.

When she reached the outside of the movie theater she found someone siting at the curb of the sidewalk right outside. It was Nick. He looked as if he was Astaring off to space thinking about something, totally unaware of someone standing right behind him.

"Can we please talk?" Lindsay asked a very calm voice.

Nick turned around and said, "Sure, but what good will it do? I see you have already made up your mind about who you wanna go out with, and I don't wanna stop you."

Lindsay sat down next to Nick so they could both be talking to one another. "Nick, you got everything totally backwards. What you are thinking is the total opposite of what happened."

"Huh?" Nick asked Lindsay with an odd expression on his face.

"I wasn't doing anything with Ryan. Ryan and I are over. I will never love him again. What you thought you saw was the total opposite of what was actually happening. I bet you thought that I was trying to hit on Ryan, but I wasn't. Ryan was totally trying to get back together with me. He was trying to do the same thing the other day."

For a while Nick just stared at Lindsay wide-eyed probably thinking whether or not to believe her.

"Do you believe me at all?" she asked him.

"Yeah, I totally believe you," Nick said, "I'm sorry. I should have given you more trust than that. We have known each other for a while, but I don't know why I thought that. I should have remembered all the things you used to complain about when you were with him and just figured it out."

"Hey, it's okay."

"Thanx," Nick said.

"No problem, but I have a problem with something else."

Nick had an expression on his face as if saying, oh, no, what now, but he said, "What?"

"Well, I thought we were supposed to be going to the movies tonight, but we won't be able to get back in."

"True," Nick agreed, "Then guess what we'll have to do!"

"I have no idea!"

"How would you like to go to the park and play some basketball?"

"That would be so much fun," Lindsay agreed. "I love basketball."

"No one can beat me, I am a real pro at the game."

"Wanna bet?" Lindsay asked.

"Try me," he said.

"Okay, I will!" Lindsay said and that made the two of them revved up and ready to play.

They walked over to Nick's car and both got in. When they got there Nick too the basketball out of his trunk (Not a fact: just a part of the story: he keeps so many sports equipment in his car, you never know what you'll find in there!!)

"You come prepared, I see!!!" Lindsay said.

"Yep, for every occasion." He replied.

Lindsay laughed.

"Okay, let's play," he said. "I'll let u start off with the ball, since I know I can get it back from you."

"Don't be so confident of yourself," Lindsay said with a smile.

"Okay," Nick said and handed Lindsay the ball once they go onto the court and they started to play.

The game was the total opposite of what Nick had expected. He thought that Lindsay was gonna totally suck at the game, but he was so wrong.

"Wow! You're not half bad," Nick said.

"Thanx," Lindsay said.

The game ended with Lindsay winning 1 game and Nick winning 2, and one of those games were pretty close with a tie, but Nick stole the ball from Lindsay and scored his point.

"That's my favorite game," Lindsay told Nick once the game was over and they were heading back towards the car.

"I can tell." Nick said with a smile. How come you're so good at it?"

"Well, my brothers taught me a lot of sports when I was younger, but this is the only game I really got into, aside from baseball." Lindsay explained.

"Cool!!" he replied. "We should play more often then."

"That's a good idea," Lindsay said. "I'd love to."

"Same here," Nick agreed. Then he looked at his watch. It said 11:00. "Ya know, its getting kinda late, so I better take you home. Time went by so fast didn't it?"

"Yeah, that really was fast. I think you're right. I gotta go home and study for a Spanish test. If I don't ace that test, I am dead."

"You'll do fine," Nick said trying to be sweet.

"Thanx," Lindsay said.

They had finally reached Nick's car and got in. They both buckled their seatbelts and Nick started to drive.

By the time they arrived that Lindsay's house they started to say bye to one another.

"Thanx for such a wonderful evening, Nick." Lindsay said. "I had a great time."

"Me too." Nick said. Maybe we can do it again sometime are you up for that?"

"Sure!!!"

"Okay, I'll call you," Nick said. "Good night."

"Night," Lindsay said while they both were leaning in for a kiss.
