I use a Sunbeam gas grill, so my tips will be geared more towards
those who use gas grills
I went down to my local Sears store and picked up a little cast iron smoking box. I think I paid about $12 for it.
You put the smoker box on the grill above the burners (below the cooking grill). Just pop some wood chips in some water for a couple of hours, then put them in the box when you are ready to BBQ
Some things to remember when using it are:
Very cool (and ecologically correct too!) is to use nut shells as smoking materials. I have used pecan shells with great success so far. They give a tri-tip a nice smooth flavor.
