APRIL

"The entire pack serves in some capacity while the wolf pups are reared. Females often "baby-sit" the pups while the alpha female resumes hunting activity, and each pack member provides food for the 5 to 12 hungry wolf pups.

Pups lick and nuzzle the mouth or head of an adult returning from a hunt, stimulating the adult to regurgitate partially digested meat. Adults often have to make several long trips from the kill to the den to ensure the young are well fed, and at times must retreat to hidden areas so they can digest a meal without sharing it.

Wolf pups emerge from their dark den about three weeks after birth and begin playing, exploring and resting with the rest of the pack."
