Tenshinhan

Speeking only when truly necessary, Tenshinhan(Tien) is a man bound by a deep sense of honor. He was first introduced in the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai as a disciple of Tsurusennin (the Crane Elder), Kamesennin's rival. His friend and fellow disciple, Chaozu, entered as well but was eliminated early on in his match against Kulilin. Tsurusennin was enraged when he learned that Gokou (who had also entered the tournament) had killed his brother Taopaipai. The Crane Elder ordered Tenshinhan to kill the youth (along with the help of Chaozu's telepathy) when they met in the final match. This presented Ten with a moral dilemma. In the end he chose to rebel against his teacher and fight honestly, without any outside help. It is this sense of honor that characterizes Tenshinhan throughout the series. Even later in Dragon Ball Z, when the Saiyajin presence multiplies from one to about five, Tenshinhan always presents himself as a formidable opponent.
