Fiona Apple was born Fiona Maggart. Apple is her grandmother's last/ possibly maiden name. I think that Fiona was born on September 13th, 1977, because I read that Tupac Shakur died on her birthday. She has a sister, Amber Maggart, who sang backing vocals on Pale September.She lived in New York City with her mother until she was 12, when she was raped outside her apartment. After that she moved to Los Angeles with her dad and took a self-defense course. On these matters she said she is stonger than that rapist on this logic: How much strength does it take to hurt a little girl? And how much strength does it take for that little girl to rise above it and go on with her life? Fiona had never sung onstage before she sang for some Sony Music executives to get a record deal. She released Tidal when she was 18, and appeared in the Lilith Fair with such acts as Sarah McLachlan and Jewel. At the recent Grammy ceremony she gave a stellar performance of her hit Criminal and was awarded a Grammy for best female rock vocals. There is now word on a new CD coming soon from Fiona. Fiona Apple may only be 20, but her music is ageless.
