Ampang Park's La Viva Carnival Festival

After being cancelled at the original place (Sydney 2000, I heard they changed owner and they rebuilt the interior, and now they don't want any more non-mainstream, non-commercial and creative bands), and later cancelled again at the 'plan B' place, Warp (too expensive apparently), the gig was finally set up in the least expected place: a low-profile dangdut pub in Ampang Park shopping complex called La viva Carnival. The bands nevertheless gathered to check out the place and it was pretty cool! Large place, big sofas and coffee tables everywhere, a bar near the entrance with stools around, and a small stage with drums, synths and amps in the far corner. Anyways, the place started getting filled up and only a couple of bands got to sound check (Better, if you ask me. Long soundchecks are boring and pointless.) Finally the gig started cool, with the great bands in the lineup, gradually finishing one after the other. Koffin Kanser brought in three guys playing didjeridoos and played together with Koffin's low-tuned hardcore! It was great. Excellent ska/oi bands played their melodic tunes, and the place was filled with people dancing all around..there was an excellent vibe in the air. When Lyme's turn came up, we were got a really warm welcome!. We had to be shifted up in the band lineup from third to almost last because of a little organisation problem, but it paid off well! We opened with nothing, and people sang with us! We mixed the ending of it with a previously unplayed sound- check/incomplete song which we enjoyed playing. Soon after, we were asked to play Uneasy (ikan keke) by the cool people on the dance floor...soon we were all singing together in chorus! Then before I had time to catch my breath, boy and moez had started Size does matter's main bassline, and cheers came from all around! Smiles could be seen in friend's faces and mosh-Girls were everywhere in the moshpit! I didnt miss the crowd-surfing girl in the middle of the pit too! Far Out! After this, Something was played, and the show was closed off with that crunchy song, Purge. (Is that the name? Moez hates it, maybe we should call it something else) Which sounded pretty tight and..uhm, well, moshy. Then we left the stage and on came other excellent bands and everyone was just enjoying till dropping! When the whole thing finished, some bands stayed back and just relaxed inside the place for some time. It was an excellent evening, it was! END
