Ordnance Technicians (EOD)
1. The Corps needs 14 Marine Sergeants to latmove into EOD; MOS 2336.
2. CAREERIST: Any Career Sergeant with less than 2 years in grade that are interested in latmoving into EOD may apply. Candidates must meet all prerequisites in accordance with MCO P1200.7 and must be able obtain the minimum obligated service of 36 months upon reporting to school. Enlisted Career Force Controls (ECFC) will not be waived to obtain obligated service.
3. 1ST TERM MARINES: Any FY99 First Term Corporal or Sergeant that is interested in latmoving into EOD may apply. Candidates must meet all prerequisites in accordance with MCO P1200.7. These Marines must reenlist for a minimum of 48 months in order to obtain the obligated service that is required upon reporting to school. Any FY99 First Term Corporal or Sergeant in an OPEN MOS may apply for a latmove into EOD. Currently the Boatspace Report shows 0 allocation. However, as long as there are school seats available on the boatspace report, HQMC will consider the MOS in a OPEN status.
4. INTERVIEWS: All Marines must obtain an interview by the senior member of a EOD unit/detachment prior to latmove submission.
5. REQUIREMENTS/PREREQUISITES: Listed are the Requirements/Prerequisites from MCO P1200.7.
(1) GT 110 or higher.
(2) Complete the EOD, basic course.
(3) Meet all requirements for assignment to a critical position
within the Nuclear Weapons Personnel. Refer to SECNAVINST 5510.35
(4) Interviewed per MCO

(5) Volunteer in the grade of sergeant (waiverable for Marines who
are corporals and are reenlisting at the first term alignment
plan)
(6) Must have a final secret security clearance based on background
investigation.
(7) Normal color vision and no claustrophobic tendencies.
(8) U.S. citizen
(9) In the performance of their duties must be physically qualified
for an explosive driver's and emergency driver's license per NAVSEA 239.
(10) Requirements for continued qualification and skill progression
training are:
(a) Must attend the EOD refresher course; refer
to MCO
3571.2 (MGySgt to SSgt).
(b) Complete the Advanced Access and Disablement
Course (MGySgt to Sgt).
(c) Complete the Nuclear Emergency Team (NET/NETOPs)
Course (MGySgt to Sgt).
(d) Complete the joint Nuclear Explosive Ordnance
Disposal (JNEODC) Course (MGySgt to SSgt).

FY 2000 Broadended
Opportunity for Officer Selection
And Training
(BOOST)
MARADMIN
156/99 announced the solicitation for applications for BOOST.
The BOOST program provides an educational enhancement opportunity for all
Marine enlisted personnel from educationally deprived or culturally differentiated
backgrounds, regardless of race, color, sex, religion, or national origin.
The program is designed to help Marines improved their chances for qualifying
for a commissioning program. These programs include the U.S. Naval
Academy, Marine Corps Enlisted Commissioning Education Program and the
Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps. The BOOST is a demanding 10-month
academic level instruction. This program is open to all active duty
Marines meeting the eligibility and academic requirements specified in
MCO
1560.24. Marines already possessing the qualifications for acceptance
in one of the officer programs listed in the paragraph are not eligible
for BOOST. Marine Corps Recruiting Command (MCRC), will convene a
board during December 1999 to select program participants. Applications
must be turned in to the MATSG Adjutant’s Office NLT August 13, 1999.

FY 2000 Marine Corps Enlisted Commissioning Education Program (MECEP)
MARADMIN
158/99 announced the solicitation for applications for MECEP. This
program provides an opportunity for outstanding enlisted men and women
on active duty to achieve careers as Marine Corps officers. Marines
successfully completing the program receive a baccalaureate degree (four
year college/bachelor degree) in an approved area of study. Marines selected
for participation in the MECEP will be assigned to the MECEP Preparatory
School in San Diego, CA, during early June for approximately ten weeks
of instruction in mathematics, English, physics, chemistry or physical
science, as appropriate to their areas of interest. (Refer to MCO
1560.15 for exceptions to the MECEP Prep school.) Participants
will then be assigned to one of the participating institutions in their
current grade with full pay, allowances (excluding proficiency pay), promotional
opportunities, and normal leave. Successful completion of Officer
Candidates School is required prior to appointment to second lieutenant.
Applicants may be either married or single, a Cpl or above, at least 20
but less than 26 years old by 1 July of the year applying, ranked in the
top 50% of their high school graduating class or passed the GED equivalency
test with a minimum score of 75% on each test, have a minimum SAT score
of 1000, and must be a U.S. citizen. Applicants must be capable
of obtaining a satisfactory national agency check and be eligible to receive
a SECRET clearance. Applications be must turned in to the MATSG Adjutant’s

Senate Committee Approves Repeal REDUX Provision
Repeal REDUX was included in Senate bill (S.4) and was approved by the Senate Armed Service Committee. Key provisions include:
Pay Raise

set future military pay raises at a slightly higher rate than that of
federal civilian employees.

GI Bill Increase Proposed as Reenlistment Incentive
Congressman Bob Stump (R-Ariz.) has introduced legislation (H.R. 1182)
that would cover up to 90% of college cost for service members who enlist
or reenlist for four years. In addition to covering the majority
of tuition and fees costs, the proposed changes in the Montgomery GI Bill
(MGIB) would increase the monthly stipend from $528 to $600. MGIB
changes are also proposed in S.4 and in H.R. 1071, introduced by Rep. Lane
Evans (D-Ill.). Stump’s proposal is the only one that wold require
an additional militray commitment in order to receive increased benefits.
All three proposals eliminate the $1200 basic pay reduction required for
