Session Start: Sun Nov 22 15:00:32 1998 *** Now talking in #sosstudy #sosstudy topic is 'VU PAINTSHOP PRO 5 CLASSROOM AND STUDY HALL' #sosstudy topic set by leapin on Sat Aug 29 05:02:29 #sosstudy url is http://www.vu.org Leapin will there be another PSP class? roz yes there will be one next term I will work out some of the bugs and try to make it a little less hard hehe I don't understand alpha channels and masks confuse me. quiltermom alpha channels are advanced, and actually not that great in psp 5 I would like a bit more expliantion on on how and where to use alpha channels hopefully in psp 6 they do some improvements in that area so what do you use them for leapin? Can I ask question Leapin as they come up? gw they are good to store selecions temporarily and to try various effects but in psp 5 they are not all they should be aw okay thanks leapin, I will work with them too then while we break photoshop is where alpha channels came from I really did have a great time leapin, and really learned a lot, and hopefully can be of more assistance in the future jasc just tried to copy the idea, but had to watch they did not break copyright as a result they are not as good I do have a question since I have both Ghatten and Leaopin here how big do I need to make a background pic so it is screen size. I don't want the background to tile so I have to make it big enough as a jpg. Correct? eagle about the background image. I try to avoid full size images for backgrounds and opening windows? Because depending on screen resolution it wills how differntly any way And it will probably be a heavy download! my small tile background still looks awful!! I've seen it done well a couple of times I learned a new trick with backgrounds on a web page today I tried to do that with Eagel thanks cause I want to put poem on it But doing it like that about 595x268 usually will fill the browser area of a 640x480 res screen....but then again it depends...Macs and diffent from PCs but I guess I will have to find another background you make an image, let's say a photo and scan it in at a high resolution then decrease the compression and put it in a table stretched because it is high resolution it will fill the background of the table and still load fairly quickly because of the low compression That sounds very cool! filesize will be fair AHHHHHH great Idea What is stretched? no tiling, you get the whole picture ok and most of the things I am making for class are still HUGE http://www.freeyellow.com/members5/eagel/EagelsAssignments.html I have not tried it yet, but saw it on several sites and it looked great they decreased the opacity to hide the dithering of the image So if eagle was to make a table of 100% then do that tip her picture would fill any screen. Right. it looked really nice That would make it like a framed picture also I like that and I will then go ahead an put the text on also in PSP then I only use 88% when I use % So if eagle was to make a table of 100% then do that tip her picture would fill any screen. Right. yes right leapin but I only use 88% cause lots of screens have black out area that way you are sure they will fit They will fill 88% of the screen eagle, the pic would stretch to whatever size the table is okay I visited a site that had this as the code for background and used a back ground that was animated, how difficult is that to do and is the coding correct? Yes I realize that VLINK="#CC0000" ALINK="#FF0000" BACKGROUND="neige.jpg"> but this is also another setting the neige.jpg was the animated background can you use an animated .gif as a the background? I often wondered but never tried and it only showed up in the pictures where transparent it was great fabric you used an animated gif for your background that changes colors I am trying to locate it now great yup the snowflakes ghatten did you get the bean month wav? forgot the snowflakes, remember the background that flashes colors also i used it in a table dancin yes animation made with psp I think oriole has a question oriole what is the question? here we are talking html lol Two questions, if I can sneak in another one too: First one, do you have settings that you use as sort of default settings, for say, jpg. compression, or unsharp mask? oriole I normally use 40% for .jpg compression, the odd time I have to reduce to less unsharp mask, let me get the book again..hang a sec.. one of the books I have written by a graphics professional recommends... that the unsharp mask setting.. never be higher than 3 but applied many times until you get the effect you want for instance in one picture.. it is show.. applied 25 times at 3, 2 remember the section that said most filters work better if applied gradually many times? Yes tends to give a smoother effect does that answer your question okay? geesh one example applies it 500 times!! good grief Yes, thanks - on the .jpg, did you mean that you don't normally reduce your jpgs? oriole I usually leave the compression at 40% for all .jpg files it will stay at whatever you used last no need to change each time Thanks - misunderstood. One more question ? I don't know what the original setting was from jasc (when you first installed it) but I would assume 50% I find 50% is too high too often so I leave at 40% k Off-topic - Why do I get "cant find .wav file" messages? if it is about transparency I will die HeHe - too confused to ask about transparency! I have a question oriole because in your mirc you have your sound options set to give an error.. if someone plays a sound file you do not have this allows you to know to request it you request a sound file like this !nickname filename.extension for instance I play.. * Leapin Now playing c:\mirc\sound\answer.wav !Leapin answer.wav answer.wav since you don't have it you get an error if you want it you type !leapin answer.wav and it will start downloading to your computer in c:\mirc so next time you hear the sound rather then get an error hope that made sense Thanks! It's downloading now... :) oriole Do we need two set of images? one for web and one for print outs? I adjusted the brightness and contrast on a photo I was doing, dancin.. it looked great on monitor, but too light on paper printed graphics are based on the opposite theory of web graphics in printed graphics, the higher the dpi the better actually in printed graphics I think it is called lpi lines per inch or something like that and dpi dots per inch also printers use cmyk instead of RGB Cyan Magna (or something to that effect) Yellow and Black magenta they called Black K because the letter B was already claimed by Blue in RGB thanks Lbear :) sometimes when you print an RGB graphic to your printer you will notice the colours come out differently that is because RGB is made for screen, not print this is not to say it will not print out, it will. However it may look a different shade in print then on the screen psp 5 is not very good for print I've experienced that.... This was really light dancin, but did it look okay on the screen? Yes, looked great on screen, dancin, there is an option in psp 5 that allows you to change to cmyk So I use one for the web and the other for print? also many printers have conversion software that allows the printer to choose the closest colour dancin, yes RGB for screen, and CMYK for print hmmmmmmm.......so if I understand this correctly, if I am working on a photo that has been scanned in and plan to print it I need to change to cmyk? blossom, if you scan in cmyk mode, you are fine psp will automatically keep it in cmyk ahhhhhhhh.......got cha.....thanks! Why then when I print my pages from the web, the colors look ok? most scanners today allow you to change the mode gosh leapin is to fast for me, lol dancin- good scanner, good printer, good user dancin, good question..do you suppose your printer is set up to convert automatically? I do not know. lol I just plug it in some of the hp and epson series printers came with excellent cmyk software You can CALIBRATE your printer and monitor. I have hp, this is the first time I have noticed the difference and scanner. milton can you explain more? yes I had to do that with mine Milton I am not a print expert, my printer is years old lol On many scanners there is a CALIBRATION card that you can scan and print and then re-scan the printed page and it calibrates your scanner and printer. Then use Gamma to change your monitor to match. ahh nice to know :) Where do I find gamma milton? In your CONTROL PANELS then in the DISPLAY oh, thanks know where that is thanks milton dancin remember in the second lesson where it showed you how to change your resolution? that is where he is referring to yes Thanks leapin, yes I remember now. I think roz and fabric have questions leapin http://cafe.rapidus.net/cybele/noel.html this is the url the background is animated it goes in front of and behind jpgs the coding is VLINK="#CC0000" ALINK="#FF0000" BACKGROUND="neige.jpg"> and the background is the "neige.jpg" is the coding correct and how is this accomplished? as the snow, animation is the last to load gw the background is not animated on my end just as if you were using any other jpg in a background the snow is only the two animation files, the fireplace and the cat I only see the animation in the picture...... me too blossom there is a jpg of a dog and cat the snow is on top of it the background is just a tile the cats in the window has the snow being it hmm all I see is now falling IN the .jpg I am using netscape communicator it's the way they put the animation together granny..... and the fire moving in the .jpg of the fireplace yes so does the fire I checked out the animation neige.jpg that came up animated on psp5 it is wierd, cause I thought only gifs, could be animated I'll tell ya one thing, they are excellent animations though very nice am I so cornfused? I don't see moving fire! yes they are great these ppl are from canada the fire is animated here....IE4 Oh I see your question... that it is an animated jpg and not gif LOL http://cafe.rapidus.net/cybele/Snow_Watch.gif it is a .gif aw I see hmmmm, most intersting conscept though http://cafe.rapidus.net/cybele/neige3.gif I have been watching this site they are good snow is fallin on dog granny An animated JPEG is POSSIBLE with the latest jpeg specs. I think. http://cafe.rapidus.net/cybele/Image3.gif all three are .gif files it shows in the coding VLINK="#CC0000" ALINK="#FF0000" BACKGROUND="neige.jpg"> the background tile is a .jpg LOLOL I see how they did it neige.jpg, that is what I down loaded and it animated in psp5 animation look closely at the fireplace right gw the background="neige.jpg" is the blue snowflake tile it is in 3 pieces aw I see leapin and tha animated part is a gif are all those strobe.gif in the source causing the flickering fire okay, I see, so it picked the wrong name for the animation part, lol that is right eagle the fireplace is different images well I will do some further study on this site, good eye :) whoever did the animations, did a lovely job I should spend some time on animation, it might be fun yes they do although they slow a site up soooo much :( WELL SAID !!! aw but a little is fine, leapin not when you have cable connections what do you mean john? that is true gw Yes I do know about them Slowing up sites LOL all mine are that way they are cute LAN (cable) loads real FAST okay so animation doesn't show well john? John has an @home connection (and probably is the only person in the neighborhood with one -- So DOWNLOAD looks like T1) john I can imagine it does shows up just find.... hehe milton upload Only 64K thought Milton --- you are right thanks leapin, I am tring research on animation for possible future instructions on, or about lol Granny did the animation on my new site http://www.geocities.com/heartland/bluffs/4870 gw are you going to offer a class on animation still? http://www3.ns.sympatico.ca/bians1/ How about writing a book, Leapin? I'd buy it! quiltermom, I just might do that you know :) when's your b'day granny? february 16 kayrollers is noveber 29th HEY EVERYBODY Leapin's birthday is Feb 5 it is the first :) eagle are you serious? do you have publishing experience? cause I don't!! I'll do the proofreading! Just holler when you are ready Your PSP book would be a great hit milton? your birthday is on the 15th? of feb? quiltermom wow, we might have something here, we could all get rich :) * Logging #sosstudy to '#sosstudy.log'
