Bev> If you bought PSP recently, they'll send you the upgrade for free.
Augustus> mine is old
jimbird> I just got PSP 4 about a month ago.
Richard^> Is the shareware version now extinct?
greta> yes think so
Augustus> I dont know
greta> it expires after so many days now
Richard^> Progress marches on :(
Augustus> Pegasus marches on
Richard^> Haven't tried 3.0 of Pegasus yet...letting you guys get all the bugs out of the beta first!
Otter> Shareware still works if you still have it!!! But no upgrades for it!
Augustus> is 3.0 out now it wont have many bugs
Augustus> Richard how much is Pegasus 3.0
Zonie> you 2 are on the list now LOL
Richard^> Pegasus 3.0 beta is free, I hadn't heard that David Harris had gone to fee, but anything is possible.
greta> what is Pegasus ??
Augustus> Pegasus is the best email program on the internet
wwwdot> I am glad the teacher did not pick my page as as one of the examples of bad web design
jbr> me too, lol
Richard^> Glad she didn't pick a VU page!!!
kayroller> me to
wwwdot> Maybe it is because she hasn't seen it
Augustus> wwwdot, I sent it in
wwwdot> As a bad one?
Richard^> That's what I meant LOL
Ghatten> LOL I was really glad she did not pick MINE!!!!
Augustus> I sent my own in as a good one
AngieDixon> Sorry I'm late. I forgot that my hard drive crash wiped out Mirc. So I'm here in the browser for tonight.
AngieDixon> Hi, everyone. Remember, this is my first time as a teacher, so you guys have to go easy on me. Right? That's the rule, right?

AngieDixon> I'm standing. And there are lots of questions I don't know the answer to, but I bet I can give you AN answer :>
AngieDixon> Okay. I guess we should get started. Any questions?
Augustus> are you going to post all the responces you got to the homework
Augustus> good and bad pages
AngieDixon> Augustus--I had not thought of that, but it sounds like a good idea.
Nan> are we to email the assignment to you?

Augustus> to the VU address
AngieDixon> Yeah, just email it to me. I haven't had time to look at any of them, but I have received them, & will look at them tomorrow.
anna1> are we supposed to have the homework done by this time each week?
Ghatten> WB Zonie
greta> its only tuesday ????
wwwdot> When is homework due
greta> when did this start ???
wwwdot> I just got the lesson
AngieDixon> I am not going to be picky abou the homework. Most of it you won't even turn in.
AngieDixon> I did want to see the good & bad examples.
* eagel invites you to Come visit my page at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ranch/3421/

AngieDixon> I will look at the other parts of this week's assignment for anyone who wants me to--but it may not be immediate.

AngieDixon> I noticed a lot of people are in study groups; that seems like a good way to get "feedback" on the assignments without weighting down your poor instructor.
Augustus> http://www.ktc.com/personal/lee/mpierce.html
AngieDixon> BUT. I will look over anything you'd like me to.

Augustus> is there a link where one can get good color cordinationls
Ghatten> Is there a "Due date" for homework
AngieDixon> Due date for homework. I think if you get it done by the next lesson date, you
AngieDixon> Okay, I'm caught up. Sorry. The next question was about CEU's. That's in the class schedule, hang on one.
AngieDixon> CEU's have to be applied for by May 24, according to the schedule.
Dowie> Angie anyone not having a question puts a z- in front of their nick

AngieDixon> Okay. Richard? Question?

AngieDixon> Yes. Questions. Granny?
*** Seraphina is now known as z-Seraphina
Granny-Wicked> yes angie, on lesson one you said to get an idea of a new page to do
I want to do about my company do I have to worry about copyright laws?
AngieDixon> I bet I can anticipate this one.
AngieDixon> Yes, you can re-vamp an existing page.
AngieDixon> Oh. Guess that's what I get for thinking :>
Granny-Wicked> he doesn't have one yet, he siad if I was good enough he would get a site for it
AngieDixon> Copyright laws. That's a good question. Hmm. If you use existing materials of theirs, you will need to get their permission. So, your boss has given you permission to do the site, & will be providing the information? I don't see a problem.
Granny-Wicked> okay I have his permission, but do I also need permission from the things we sell? ie products or do I make links to thier sites?
AngieDixon> Hmm. That's a toughie. You might check & find out what kind of "licenses" you have. I.e., if I sell Microsoft software, I have the right to use those images in my advertising. Why don't you email me with more details & I'll see what I can find out specifically regarding this case. When we get an "answer," we'll put it on the boards for everyone.

wwwdot> I am a meber of an organization. If I make a homepage for that organization, do I need their permission?
wwwdot> If so, from whom? Do I need a hard copy?
AngieDixon> wwwdot, it kind of depends on the organization. If it's something small or informal, you could probably just say, "Hey, guys, I'm doing a home page. Anyone want to contribute?" If it's a larger group, you might talk to the "leader."

AngieDixon> Sorry, Kayroller, I missed that second one. URL from magazines? I think I lost part of that one.
Kayroller> I would like to do a page on disabilities and thing people with disabilities can do so can I take url from maginzines to page add to page
AngieDixon> Oh. Yeah, that sounds like a good plan, to surf to other sites, find links, & put them on your page. In fact, (warning, cogent point coming up)
Kayroller> or do I need to ask for permission to add to page
AngieDixon> Providing good links to other resources is a GREAT way to build traffic. The Mining Co. makes a living (a good one) at that.
AngieDixon> As far as I know, to just link to someone, there's no need to request permission; only if you're using their work would you need "permission."
Kayroller> ok thankyou

AngieDixon> Noel?
Noel> Will we have active study groups in this class? Email too? Or just send lesson one to you? What's the process going to be here?
AngieDixon> There are several study groups starting up, there's a lot of information on the boards on those. You can be in a study group & interact with them; I'll try to be active on the boards, & I'll look over anything people want me to, as time allows. There are some email study groups & some "chat" groups.

Augustus> Id like to make a stagement
Augustus> kayroller can link to my page if she wants to

AngieDixon> Someone asked earlier about color coordination. Ghatten has a URL about that...This URL has some info about selecting colors and looks at some combinations... http://raven.ubalt.edu/Images/colors/pagecolor_resources.html#advice

AngieDixon> Linda?
jazsl> "graphics always have halos around them" explain please.
AngieDixon> Oh. You know how sometimes you'll visit a site & there are fuzzy edges on the graphics? In fact, I hate to admit it, but I have two like that right now at www.signasoft.com, I didn't realize it & haven't had time to fix them. The reason for my two are that I took two images which had a white background, made it transparent, & put it on a black background. If I had used a BLACK background behind them & made THAT transparent,
AngieDixon> no halo.
AngieDixon> That's the short explanation.

AngieDixon> Clarke?
wwwdot> I have a graphic that I use for certificates. I swiped it off the web. When I enlarged it, the edges were fuzzy. Can it be fixed? And if so, how?
wwwdot> I did it again
wwwdot> Sorry
AngieDixon> No problem. I'll come back, okay?
wwwdot> I can't help hitting enter after I have finished typing something

AngieDixon> Okay, Dot. I'd have to see the picture to be sure, but I have some guesses.

AngieDixon> 1. If you change the background behind it (paint shop pro or even Windows Paint are great for that) to more closely match yours, that might work.
AngieDixon> If the background is not the problem, it COULD be that it just needs sharpening.
AngieDixon> Okay. You took an image off the web & you're using it in a non-web app.
Try increasing the resolution, that might help.
wwwdot> I make certificates for speakers to our organization
z-ghattenAFK> hey, good idea teach
AngieDixon> If you send me a copy also I'll see if I can tell. My imagination has trouble with stuff like this.
wwwdot> I don't know what that means
AngieDixon> Okay. Most web images are at a low resolution--typically 72 dpi. That means there are 72 dots on every inch. That's about what most monitors display. But when you PRINT, you usually use at least 300 dpi.
Using a graphic editing program, you can usually increase the resolution. This will make the image smaller, though, so you'll probably want to enlarge it after that. Are you following me so far?
wwwdot> I don't have a graphic editing program at present, but Augie does, and I can get one
AngieDixon> Off-hand I can't remember how to do that in Paint Shop Pro, but I bet if you increase the resolution before you enlarge it, it will look better. I'll be glad to look at it.

AngieDixon> Paint Shop Pro is a free download & then it's shareware which you need to register if you keep it.
AngieDixon> You're right. If you want to keep Paint Shop Pro, you'll have to register, because it will die.

AngieDixon> Mamabear?
mamabear2> Is there any good program to change the background of pictures that we have taken out of a book.
AngieDixon> It kind of depends. If you want to change a color that only appears in the background, doing "replace color" (I think PS Pro does that, right?) works. But if you have, say, a black & white picture of a book, & want just the outside white areas to be transparent, you could use Windows Paint or Paint Shop Pro & do paint buckets of another color in those areas. They have to be enclosed areas, though, if there are breaks in the lines you'll get the whole thing changing. Does that make sense? I haven't been using Paint Shop Pro long, I used to use another program, so I'm not very familiar with it.

AngieDixon> I've actually had lots of success with Windows paint because it's "color-dumb."
AngieDixon> No fancy anti-ailasing or anything, it just paints.
z-Granny-Wicked> in psp you can select a color and make it transparent also angie
z-wwwdot> What is anti-ailasing?
I only use Windows paint for that. I read the tip in a tutorial from the Gif Construction Set people. I do the Windows paint if I have, say, three sections that are white, but only one of those should be transparent. The paint bucket turns it neon green (for instance) very quickly.
AngieDixon> Otherwise I use more sophisticated stuff, usually, & am learning more techniques all the time. That's just a very quick way to change the color in oen section.
AngieDixon> More questions?
z-Dowie> Wish I'd know that before my Easter Hunt page!
mamabear2> I keep messing it up with pp pro. Its pictures of flowers and arra with a lot of indents,
GrafixLady> OK. I figured this chat stuff out. Here's my situation: I was wondering if you would check out my website when you get time http://members.aol.com/NAILDIVA/index.html and let me know if you think I should improve it or start on a new idea/website for this class. I kind of want to do something new like an e-zine for that website. Not sure?!? Need some direction. Thanks.
mamabear2> I cant seem to get a handle with floating it
AngieDixon> Okay. Anyone with more experience with PS Pro have tips for Mamabear?
Zonie> Links to Tutorials, Cyber Schools, Web supplys, and more
Zonie> http://www.cynetcity.com/cyberzone/106/
mamabear2> my web site is http://robertsflorist.com, will you let me know what you think

AngieDixon> Several people have mentioned their URL's & asked for critiques. That will be in the log, but if you think of it,
AngieDixon> also post a message to the boards, or if you only want ME to look, email me.

AngieDixon> That will keep your request from getting lsot.
my url is http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/3111

are there going to be a daytime class ????????
I suggested this office hours for 8 p.m. central so I could get to bed. But it got confused in the translation.
GrafixLady, start over. I can't see your whole page without using the right arrow
Grafixlady--you can fix that without starting over, if you just adjust your table width. Let me know if you need help with that.

Right now I'm not planning a daytime office hours session, but I am planning to try to move this one to an earlier hour.
kayroller....the URL catcher doesn't seem to work with colors lol

that will be difficult for us west coasters an nour earlier
Let's see how office hours go. Maybe a weekend one. I'm open to suggestions. Maybe two sessions would work better.... I'm just cringing at the thought of one ore obligation....

I would like your critque for direction on improving my site http://members.aol.com/NAILDIVA/index.html or starting fresh. My thought was an e-zine for my site.

was the ? how is homework presented answered? (kayroller I am attempting to make a gardening page for handicapped gardeners)
kayroller> my url is http://www.geocities.com/heartland/ranch/2821/

MCW> weekends would be great Thanks have a great week We certainly will be busy
AngieDixon> jazsi, the answer to that one was, I'm accepting the "good & bad" comments by email.
AngieDixon> The other homework you can share with a study group, keep to yourself, or send to me for a critique--I'll get to it when I have time, and offer feedback.

AngieDixon> Remember, my email is always open, if you think of something else or can't make office hours.> webstyle@vu.org.

AngieDixon> I will also occasionally send emails to the class list. I don't have everyone's email address, but I have an "announcement" list for you.

z-Granny-Wicked> don't forget to get the study group info to mcw please
