  The Methodist Church has approved the appointment of Mrs Shanthi Dias (nee Thambar) as the new Principal of Methodist College, with effect from 1 January 2003.   Mrs Faith Wickramasuriya (nee Guruswamy) has been appointed as Vice Principal, also from 1 January 2003.  We congratulate them on their respective appointments.  The Induction Service of the new Principal, Mrs Shanthi Dias will be held on 2 Janaury 2003

 

   The school has drawn up a Master Plan for the renovation of the entire Upper School in 3 different stages. The first phase will be the construction of a toilet complex (ground floor) and additional classrooms, adjoining the Loos Block (seaside end) in a square area of 3000 sq. ft. at a cost of Rs 4.5 million.

Stage 2 would be the development of the Science Laboratory area with an additional floor constructed above the existing building to house a Library and Computer complex.  Proposed square area would be 3,000 sq. ft at a cost of Rs 6.0 million. We hope that the Alumni Associations abroad would take this phase as their project.

The 3rd Phase would be to bring down the Restarick Bungalow and build a 4 storey complex with 16 classrooms.

 

   The Annual Sports Meet will be held on Monday, March 3 2003 at the Race Course Grounds, Reid Avenue, Colombo. The Chief Guest will be Mrs. Priyani Fernando

 

   The Prize Giving will be held on Friday, 28 March at 4.30 p.m. in the College Auditorium.  The Chief Guest will be Prof Kanthi Ratnayake, Professor of Geography, University of Ruhuna.  She is an old girlf of the school

 

 

   The College Service will be held on Sunday, 30 March 2003 at 10.30 a.m. at the Kollupitiya Methodist Church, the Preacher will be Rev Duleep Fernando

 

 

  There will be a special  ‘Grandparents Day’ for Grades 6 & 7 on Wednesday, 2 April from 9.30 a.m. – 11.00 a.m. and for Grades 1 & 2 on Tuesday, 8 April from 9.30 a.m. – 11.00 a.m.  Grandparents of children in these classes are invited to come to the Auditorium for a special programme and then to go to the classrooms to view the handwork and exhibits and have a time of fellowship.

 

  School will close for the first term on Thursday, April 10 at 12.00 noon and re-open on 22 May at 8.a .m.

 

  The refurbishment of the School Office block is almost complete and it looks really 'grand'!!

 

   The OGA picnic has been scheduled for Saturday, 29 March 2003
