Abigor - "Nachthymnen (From The Twilight Kingdom)" (1995)
Cool album from Austria´s Abigor!! This is 9 tracks of great cold Black Metal, with pretty good pruduction, and really good composed songs. I think you all know this band, and they are not quite an underground band, and to those who havent heard them: buy this cool record!!!! Rating: 8 out of 10.
Aghast - "Hexeri im Zwielicht der Finsternis" (1995)
WOW!!!!!!!! When I first heard this album, I was absolutely amazed by it! Never before had I heard such complaining chilling vocals, and such dark musick!! Not many instruments, just darkness, with the witches Nacht and Nebel chanting and laughing in their evil way in the background. Some might find this very boring, but I fidn it absolutely brilliant!! The cover is all in grey, black and white, and it gives the whole thing that very dark and evil feeling that makes it so great! I dont think you can buy it from the company anymore, so you have to be lucky, but if you find it somewhere, be sure that you buy it!!! Brilliant! Rating: 9,5 out of 10.
Ancient - "Svartalvheim" (1994?)
I only have this in a slim promo-cover, so therefore I cant say what the tracks are called or anything. That doesnt really matter, as this is pretty cool music. Black metal, with alot if different pieces into it. Some accoustic, flute I think, keyboard, and some cool sound-effects. A pretty good album actually, even though I hate Ancient. This is a fairly good album. Not extremely bad at all. Rating: 7 out of 10.
Apollyon - ´"Diaboli Gratia" (1998/99)
After a series of cool demos, Danish Apollyon finally lets out their long awaited debut-cd. Its a fucking great piece of unholy Black Metal, that stays true to the orioginal purpose and feelings involved within Black metal, while still adding new and cool parts, and also incorporating old thrashy riffs once in a while. The line-up: Archdemon Diabolos - guitars, bass, synth and vocals, Sorgh - drums and Vrykolatios - vocals. Herr Alfast (also in Brandpest) has now joined the unholy ranks, but hes not playing on this album. The logo is by Cristophe Szpajdel and Joe Petagno has done the fucking cool frames! To rum it up short: thjis is a cult Black Metal-album, and I think it will appeal to just about all of you out there, as its not so mainstream and boring as alot of other new albums. Out on Full Moon Productions! Buy this! Rating: 9 out of 10
A Tribute To Hell - Satanic Rites (BM-Compilation) (1998 2cd)
Just by looking at the bands featured on this unholy compilation, you know its gonna be good!! Mayhem, Acheron, Mysticum, Apollyon and 28 others are gathered here to spread the message of Satan by performing their unholy art!! It is truly one of the best compilations Ive ever heard!! Also the cover (painted by Petagno) rules supreme!!! Its released by the the cult Full Moon Prod., and they have really made a couple of discs worth being called A Tribute To Hell!! There are of course one or two tracks that are of less quality, but that means NOTHING in the big picture, as everything else simply rules! A page in the cover for each and every band is not to be forgotten either!!!! Well, not much more to say really. If you want one of the very best Black Metal-compilations around, go spend your money on A Tribute To Hell!!! Rating: 9,5 out of 10.

Bathory - "Under The Sign Of The Black Mark" (1986)
This is a fucking great Black Metal album, and its just in the style I like it. Primitive with great riffs and a feeling that stands second to few. We get great classics like "Equimanthron", "Woman of dark desires" and "Enter the eternal fire" on this great album by Bathory, and together with all their other albums (the earlier ones!!) this is also adestined classic that should be in every Black Metallers collection for sure!!! Rating: 9 out of 10.
Bathory - "Blood On Ice" (1995?)
This is not the whole album, but only a promo in slim-cover, featuring the three songs: "The Sword", "The Lake" and "The Woodwoman". I have heard the entiry album, and in my opinion these three are clearly the best tracks, so thats just great! I like "The Woodwoman" best. Both because of the lyrics, but of course mostly the excellent music. I have actually not heard many of the old Bathory, but what I have heard does not sound like this at all. This is not nearly as black as what I heard, but its still just as good! I wont bore you more with this review, as not many of you will get it. Dont be afraid to buy the whole album though. Its still rules!! Rating: 8 out of 10.
Burzum - "Burzum/Aske" (1992)
The debut album and the second album by Burzum on this little disc here. Ever since I heard "Hvis lyset tar oss" in 1994, Ive liked the music of Burzum, and the man behind it all rules too. His name is (as all of you probably know) Varg Vikernes. On this album its pretty much straight forward unholy black metal in the true old norwegian vein. In between these great tracks are some synth-tacks also. Its all very cool, and you should get this one because its kind of a classic to the genre, and its made to terrorize your christian sorroundings! If we take the "Burzum"-part first, it starts with a great track, and The Count (Varg) screams out his lyrics in a most devestating raw and primitive way. This is really great! The pruduction is actually quite good. Its recorded in the Grieg Memorial Hall, w/ Pytten. If youre into the same old, primitve, evil and cold Black Metal youll like this one. The "Aske"-part is a little different. First off its only three tracks, but that doesnt matter. Great tracks and lyrics, and with a little better pruduction that the other tracks. It sound just a little bit more "polished", but without losing the genuine black feeling to it. It comes in a digi-pack and the lyrics are printed in english and in german. Cool lyrics! Well, why the Hell dont you buy this one if you havent got it already???!! Burzum when he was most primitive and raw black metal!! Rating: 9,5 out of 10.
Burzum - "Det Som Engang Var" (1993)
This next album doesnt quite live up to the great standars set by Burzum/Aske. The production is better though. More depth and a little darker. The lyrics are good as always. There is an instrumental piece from 1989 featured here also. Nothing special really, but ok. It seems like a natural way for him to go after the debut, and he will continue in this vein for many years to come. I think this album is more built on mood and emotions than the previous ones, which is not bad! It comes in a digi-pack, and its got cool artwork. The cover shows a painting of the gate to Valhalla, and a smaal figure is standing in front. Very cool painting indeed. I think youll all like this one too. Rating: 8 out of 10.
Burzum - "Hvis Lyset Tar Oss" (1994)
His best album!!!! This is my absolute favourite by Burzum, and there a couple of reasons for that. First off, the first track "Det Som Engang Var" is one of the greatest black metal-tracks ever written and smashed down on disc. No fucking kidding! It lasts for about 15 minutes, but it seems like that if he had made it any shorter, it would have been too short. You dont get bored! Also this album (this song indeed) has the greatest lyrics ever written by Varg. Just listen to this line: "...Vi doede ikke. Vi har aldri levd...!" Awesome lyrics!!!! This track is monumental, and its surely the best by burzum, and surdenly one of the best black-tracks ever to emerge from any band actually. But thats just my opinion. If you dont like it, fuck you! The next two tracks are of course not quite as good, but still awesome. These are faster than the first one, and they keep a pretty high (Burzum-standard) pace for the entire duration of the songs. They both last about 8 minutes. The last track is pure synth, called "Tomhet". A great track of its kind, which shows that the Count can freeze you in more thatn one way. Its a pretty sad and monotonous track, and I know alot might find it boring. The trick is to not just listen, and say fuck this, but to lower yourself into the layers of sad and depressive tones and emotions that sorround this great track. It lasts for about 15 minutes also, and by that, this album gets kicked up to about 45 minutes with only 4 tracks. very good job indeed, as it doesnt get boring at any time. The cover is a painting of the late Norwegian painter Theodor Kittelsen, and it shows an old man in a forest, lying on the ground. He is very thin and pale looking, and could be a wictim of the plague. Very great painting, which kinda captures the music also. This is one of my all time favourite black metal album, and also the one I have had for the longest time. I got this the same year it came out, even thoguh I was no big black metal fan at that time. Buy this one, as it is made to crush and distubb every single jolly-ass-happy-fucking-x-mas idiot that may be carolling around you in this bitter christmas month. Buy! Rating: 9,5 out of 10.
Burzum - "Filosofem" (1995)
This is a kind of a set back in my opinion. But of course, that only compared to the previous Burzum albums. The sound and vocal is very distorted, and even though that makes it kind of colder, I prefer the old Burzum sound. The first three tracks are some of the best material he has ever written. The first track is a sad one, simply called "Burzum" I like this track very much, because of that very thing. That its sad. The next track is called "Jesu Død". Translated it means "Jesus´ Death". This track shows Varg it another quite high paced black matel song, that shows he is still the maker of awesome black metal. The double bass-drums go on for the entire track and since thats about 8 minutes, I guess thats quite empressive. I dont know much about that, but I can imagine it to be pretty hard. The third track is slower, and has a darker way to it that the previous. A good track, though not as good as the other two. The next three tracks are the tracks where most of the people I know stop liking this one. Track four is called "Gebrechlichkeit" and its an almost instrumental track with some weird sound-effects. Even I find this a little boring. Track six btw is the same just entirely instrumental. Between these we find a pure synth-track in the same vein as "Tomhet" on the "Hvis Lyset tar Oss"-album. This lasts for 25 fucking minutes (!!) ad I think thats why alot dont like it. The trick for this one is the same as to "Tomhet". I find it great, even though not nearly as good as awesome "Tomhet". I guess youll be very satisfied with half of this album, even though the very distorted vocal and pruduction. Its more raw than before, and in a way it suits the music. I just like the older better. Rating: 8 out of 10.
Burzum - "Daudi Baldrs" (1997)
Alot of people might think ???????????????????? when they hear this album. Its purely synth, and its build upon the tale/death of Balder, the nordic god. Its all made while Varg was in jail I think and that would of course explain for the loss of other instruments besides the keyboard/computer. First off, this has NOTHING whatsoever to do with black metal! Just so you know this. The music is more in the vein of all the other synth tracks he has done earlier. Though not so long. Some of the tracks (especially #5 and "6) and sad tunes, while a track like #4 is more bombastic. Still I think that bombastic music should not be made entirely on keyboard, since it kinda handicaps the feeling and emotionsn that I normally get from listening to that kind of music. This album has been recieved quite differently by my friends, but I like it very much, and the digi-packed cover rules too. The inlay-cover shows six different oil-paintings that are all about the tale which is told. Balder´s tale. One thing I cant seem to fucking understand though, is why the Hell all the lyrics (even though nothing is sung) has to be in fucking icelantic!!!!!!!????? Irritates Me endlessly, but thats a small prize to pay, as the music rules. Rating: 7 out of 10.
Burzum - "Hlidskjálf" (1999)
The newest album from Varg Vikernes, and the second in the trilogy! This is slightly better than "Balders Død" I think, but its really not that mush. It seems like he has gotten more control over what hes doing, and some of the songs just hit right away. Still, this come nowhere near his Black Metal days, but I review these two last albums as pure ambient-albums and I dont really compare them to the Black Metal ones, as that wouldnt be a fair comparisment. The layout and graphics are really beautiful in this one, and the paintings inside the cover are truly great if you ask Me. Well, in conclusion: if you liked the previous album, youll probably enjoy this aswell! Rating: 7,5 out of 10.
C
Cradle Of Filth - "The Principle Of Evil Made Flesh" (1994)
First off, I do NOT consider CoF to be Black Metal at all! But since I dont feel like maiking a "vampyric-erotic-gothic-pussy"-section too, theyll come in under black! Period! This is the debut album by english CoF, and its also their best! I like this album alot, since I think they have become just a little bit to pussy-like on their newer stuff. More comments on that later. The music (if you didnt know) is sort of like soft black metal, with alot of vampyric/gothic feeling to it. The cover is great as all their others, so no complaints there. The production could have been better, cause good prud. suits this kind of music. The drums are cool but the vocals are a little irritating. They have gotten alot worse later!! Anywho, this is still a good album! Thats about it. Rating: 8,5 out of 10.
Cradle Of Filth - "Vempire or Dark Fearytales In Phallustein" (1996)
The second album by english metallers CoF. This is a natural progression from the first album I think. More female vocals on this one, and the production has gotten better. If you sit down and really listen to this music, youll find that there are alot of very interesting things around in the tracks, and all in all this album rules (almost) as much as the first one! The cover is better though! Pure fucking great cover! Rating: 8 out of 10.
Cradle Of Filth - "Dusk And Her Embrace" (1996)
Third album. This is more boring than "Vempire..." I think, as its slower, and not so filled eith great surprises. Its still the typical vein of the cradle, but all ibn all they have gotten a little more mature maybe, but definatly somewhat more boring. Its a step downhill for CoF. Rating: 5 out of 10.
Cradle Of Filth - "Cruelty And The Beast" (1998)
The newest studio-album from CoF! First off, this is better than "Dusk.."!! The production (especially the drums) though has gotten worse, and sometimes I get to think if they have usen a machine for drums. Dont quite know. The lyrics and music are the same as always. The lyrics are about Elizabeth Bathory, and the lyrics simply rule!! You can probably say alotta bad things abiout this band, but Dani Filth sure as Hell can write great lyrics!!! This seems more fresh, and still more gloomy and dark than the others, but the production fail miserably. A shame actually, b/c almost everything else about this album is cool. New keyboardist on this album too. I shall quote from his thank you-list: "For God, St. George and England" What a fucking wuss!! CoF has always played a little on satanism, but what the Hell is this???? No respect for the keyboardist! The cover is their coolest, and these pics really rules1!! Well, if youre into CoF, you probably like this one also. Rating: 5,5 out of 10.
Crown Of Thorns - "The Burning" (1995)
Cool black/thrash/death from Sweden!!! Real qualiry, and kicks ass musick!!! Cool vocals, and great handling of satanic instruments makes this a fresh and cool record of the night!! Rating: 8 out of 10.
D
Dark Funeral - "The Secrets Of The Black Arts" (1996?)
The second assault of Unholy Black Metal from this great swedish band!! Its the same style as always, so no surprises really. None needed though, and great cold Black Metal is always welcome. Its always good to hear a band who stick to the original, and dont let their musick drown in way too many thousands keyboards and female-vocals. To put it short: UNHOLY BLACK METAL!! Rating: 9 out of 10.
Dark Funeral - "Vobiscum Satanas" (1998)
Third album of satanic black metal art from this swedish act. They play it like its meant to be: cold, satanic, fast and evil!! This is extreme musick, but still their "The Secrest Of The Black Arts" is a little better. Cool coverart with great digipack cover and theres not really much to complain about here. If you like extreme black metal a bit in the veins of Marduk, youll surely like Dark Funeral, and their excellent "Vobiscum Satanas"!! Rating: 9 out of 10.
Darkthrone - "Soulside Journey" (1991)
The debut-album from this my fave black metal act of all unholy times!! I must stress though, that this is not black metal, but very technical death metal. Fenriz (Or Gylve Nagell)´s drumming on this effort simply kills!!! All in all actually all the musicians do it very well indeed! As this is one of my absolute fave death/black-metal albums, it gets a high rating also. And its fucking great stuff for techinical death metalheads!!! Rating: 9 out of 10.
Darkthrone - "Goatlord" (1996)
One of the newest, but at the same time oldest efforts from this the (in my opinion) best black metal band of all unholy times!! Its recorded as a rehearsal back in 1990-91, but vocals were first put on in 1994. A christraping scream by Satyricon-mainman Satyr leads us into a very cool album of death black metal of highest quality. The drumming of Fenriz is as like their first album (Soulside Journey 1991) which means very techincal and veried, and the riffs are as cool as the Darkthrone-standard lets them. Which means COOL! Nocturno Culto is experiencing more with his vocals on this effort, I think, but its not much. Sometimes you can hear a kind of a "agony moan" or whatever, and thats cool with some variation. Something he does no longer do on newer recordings. Unlike the other recordings by Darkthrone there is also some female vocals on this cd. Now don´t you go thinking that this is some wimpy sell out feature, as the females singings just helps the music get more sad or cold at many places. I usually can´t seem to find any bad or negative things on any of Darkthrone´s albums, and this is no exception. It comes in a cool digipack cover, that I think will satisfy even the most picky. All in all an album which I think not only will be liked by Darkthrone fans, but also alot of other fans of good old death black metal. Rating: 9 out of 10.
Darkthrone - "A Blaze In The Northern Sky" (1991)
Let Me first say, that this is and will always be THE black metal album in my book!! The members have now chenged their names from and to: Gylve Nagell/Fenriz (Drums and lyrics), Ted Skjellum/Nocturno Culto (Grim vocals and lead guitar.) and the last member is Ivar Enger/Zephyruous on 2nd guitar. Also Dag Nilsen on session bass. All the songs are so enormously well structured, cold, evil and everything else a real great Black Metal album has to be!! The texts rule, the cover is great, and the production is as ugly and cold as any other Darkthrone album, which means: BLACK!! There isnt really that much to say about it, other than if you havent got this one yet, its about fucking time you did!!! Just listen to lines like this from the title-track: "It took ten times a hundred years before the king on the northern throne was brought tales of the crucified one. We are a blaze in the northern sky, the next thousand years are OURS!!!" Three words can actually summon up this fantastic recording: TRUE BLACK METAL. Rating: 10 out of 10.
Darkthrone - "Under A Funeral Moon" (1992)
Another great album by these masters of Northern black metal!! It never fails, and that goes for this one too! Alot of people may think that the songs are to primitive, or the production is too weak. Fuck off!! The almost patented evil Darkthrone feeling is here again, and thats fucking it!! I personally think the ugly production makes this recording more cold than the previous, which of course is a good thing. As always they claim to play true norwegian black metal, and thats no fucking lie!! "And when all sons of Satan sodomize the lambs of christ!!" This cant go wrong!! BUY!!! Rating: 9,5 out of 10.
Darkthrone - "Transilvanian Hunger" (1993)
The excellent follower to "Under..." is here!! And its even (a bit) better than the previous!! The opening riff sounds a bit like the opening riff on their next album, but thats ok, since its a cool riff. Basically its the same vein as always, which is primitive, cold, dark and evil black metal. As they call it on this album: Norsk Arisk Black Metal. (Norwegian Aryan Black Metal), and that description fits perfectly!! The first track, also the titletrack, is in my opinion one of the best Darkthrone-songs of all time, and I think alot of you will agree. Half of the lyrics on this album are written by Fenriz, and the other half is written by Count Grishnack (aka Varg Vikernes) of Burzum, written while he is in jail. Pretty typical lyrics actually, but it fits the music, so no comlaints here. The production is not as thin as on "Under..." but still its colder on this one. Not much besides that. If you like the other Darkthjrone, youre bound to like this one too, even though alot of ppl think it sucks. Fuck them!! Them!! This is black metal!!! Rating: 9 out of 10.
Darkthrone - "Panzerfaust" (1995)
Yet another album by these masters or the black, and this time theyve got a different kinda feeling to it. Dont get Me wrong, its still ugly as Hell black metal, but this time it seems more inspired by Celtic frost, which is very good indeed!! With this album, they changed from Peaceville to Moonfog (owned by Satyr) btw. The first track "En vind af sorg" is my fave Darkthrone-track, and perhaps black metal-track of all times. It simply rules too much. Youd have to hear it! Ive also had a cool experience with this particular track. My best friend and I were sitting at my room, drinking beers, with only one single black candle to light up the room. We put "Panzerfaust2 on, and as Nocturno Coltu screams "EN VIND AF SORG..." the candle suddenly blows out! No windows were open, and our mouths were covered with great beer. Awesome experience!! That also helps making this track one of the best! Otherwise as good as one could expect. You are gonna like this one too!! "True norwegian black metal" Rating: 9 out of 10.
Darkthrone - "Total Death" (1996)
Yezz!!! Darkthrone again!!! hehehe... it never seems to fail, and this is proven with "Total Death" too! Half the lyrics on this album, is written by Nocturno Culto, and the other half is written by different ppl of the norwegian black metal scene. These ppl: Satyr (Satyricon), Garm (Ulver), Carl Michael (Ved Buens Ende) and Ihsahn (Emperor). Cool lurics by the four, and Nocturno´s is in the same vein as the ones Fenriz writes. Satanic!! Btw all the tracks w/ lyrics by non-members of darkthrone, Fenriz has written the music for, and Nocturno has written the other half´s music also. This time theyre as primitive as they always are, byt the production is a little different, more ugly, and not so cold anymore. More bass, makes the feeling more ugly, horror-like without loosing the original true black metal-feeling. On this album there is only Fenriz and Nocturno Culto left btw. They do it just as well though. Especially the ending riff in the last song. Awesome riff!!! Check this out asap!! Also very nice cover-art indeed! Not so primitve as earlier, but cool anyway. Still, though, this is their weakest black metal album! Of course that doesnt make it actually bad though. "We sail the seas of negativity, to banish kindness fronm this place" Rating: 9 out of 10.
Darkthrone/Mayhem - "The True legends In Black" (199?)
Here is a split cd with the two absolutely greatest black metal bands of all time!! It includes Darkthrone´s second demo "Thulcandra" (1989) and Mayhem´s second demo "Deathcrush" (1987) in its original uncut version. Very great stuff indeed. Well start with Darkthrone. These three tracks are featured: Eon, Thulcandra and Archipelago. The production is quite primitive, just as the music. Alot might say very bad production, but to this genre, it fits! The lineup is: Fenriz (drums & vocals(!)), Zephyrous (rythm guitar), Nocturno Culto (lead guitar) and Dag Nilsen (bass guitar). The music is like on the "Soulside Journey"-album, so no complaints here. For a true black metal or just Darkthrone-fan, this is a must, but I must stress that if new Bimmu Dorgir is what you like best, forget this one! On to Mayhem: These tracks are featured: Silvester anfang, Deathcrush, Chainsaw gutsfuck, Witching hour (by Venom), Necrolust, Cweirds manheim, Pure fucking armageddon. It also includes a rehearsal track where Mayhem and Count Grishnack (at least I think its then, but Im not nearly sure) sings a song by Cliff Richard!!! Something like: "All the little flowers are singing. All the little birds are too. They are very happy. And we hope you are too..." STRANGE!! The production here is clearer than on the Darkthrone-tracks and have a little more power to them. Great stuff. The lineup btw, is: Euronymous (guitars), Necro Butcher (bass), Manheim (drums) and Maniac (vocals). As said before, if youre into true black metal, this would be for you!! If youre only into overpolished sissyass-santa-clause production, forget it! Well, thats it for this one. Well, the cover is a picture from 1991 of the two bands. All in all this cd RULES!!! Rating: 9 out of 10.
Darkthrone Holy Darkthrone - "Eight Norwegian bands paying tribute" (1998)
A tribute to the best black metal band of all time!! Its out on Moonfog just now, and it kills!!!! It comes in a very nice digipack, with lyrics (Even to the "Green Cave Float"-track) and pictures of Nocturno Culto and Fenriz. Ill start from the beginning: Track 1: Satyricon - "Kathaarian Life Code". (From the "A Blaze..."-album.) Its a really killer track, and Satyricon does it honour! They have put some real cool speak in some places in between, and the production is cool. Its like a mix between Satyricon´s production on "Nemesis Divina", and the classic Darkthrone-production. Also there are some shouts which comes two times during the song, and they help making this a truly great black metal experience. Hails to satyricon for this great track!! Track 2: Enslaved - "Natassja In Eternal Sleep". (From the "Under A Funeral..."-album.) This is a killer song on when Darkthrone plays it, and Enslaved have decided to play it just like the original. Nothing new at all, but then again, if the original way is awesome, why bother? A cool track, but perhaps a bit too close to the original version. Track 3: Thorns - "The Pagan Winter". (From the "A Blaze...") ??????? I thought Thorns was a raw black metal band, but this is FAR from that!!! Its like some industrial version, which alot of machine-sounds throughout the song. Very strange indeed. Also they have added to the original lyrics. They must have, because what they sing, and what it says in the cover isnt as the original. Even stranger!!! Though, since I like that kind of music too, its a very cool track. Though not for the very picky lietener I think. Track 4: Emperor - "Cromlech" (From the "Soulside Journey"-album") This is also a very killer track!! Emperor choose to play it in a rather typical Emperor-way. (If you take the "Anthems..."-album and not the old stuff) This they do remarkably well. A good, clear production makes you able to hear everything, and you should coz this is a great track! Track 5: Dödheimsgard - "Green Cave Float" (From the "Goatlord"-album) Even more ??????????????!!!! I have the "Kronet Til Konge"-album by Dödheimsgard myself, and that is raw black metal just like Darkthrone, but this is totally weird!!! It can at some times be difficult to keep up with the singing in the sense that sometimes multiple voices sing at once, and the musick is definetly not like Darkthrone´s version! Still though, after hearing this a couple of times, I began to like it, and its actually a pretty good track. Track 6: Gehenna - "Transylvanian Hunger" (From the "Transylvanian Hunger"-album) Could this be the best track??? I actually think so! Even though its followed closely by Emperor and Satyricon, this one takes the first place! First a one minute long intro, and then the opening riff hits you in the fucking head like a sledgehammer!! Really great and cold production, and the band plays great!! Its even better than I remember their normal stuff! You are bound to like this one!! Track 7: Gorgoroth - "Slottet I Det Fjerne" (From the "Under A Funaral..."-album) I really didnt like the new Gorgoroth-abulm very much. Their older stuff is ok, but this sucks!!! Very distorted and messy makes it horrible to listen to!! And I dont mean this in any good way!! The worst track!! Track 8: Immortal - "To Walk The Infernal Fields" (From the "Under A Funeral..."-album) Immortal plays this great track very much like Darkthrone does. Same thin production, and primitive way of playing. It doesnt sound like I would expect it from Immortal, but nevertheless this is great stuff! A cool track!! And that track ends it all. A very cool tribute-album indeed!! You wont regret if you buy this one, even though there are a few missers in between. Rating: 9 out of 10.
Denial Of God - "The Ghouls Of DOG" (1996)
The debut cd from this great danish black horror metal-act, which I happen to know personally!! Great satanic individuals, and great metal music!!! The only thing I truly cant handle on this record, is the fucking irritating drums! The dont fit in at all, and Uksul has surely played better! The music is as said Black Horror Metal, the soundtrack to your worst fucking nightmare!! The lyrics are total horror/satanic, and they fit the musick good! Check this band out, as they rule, and as they also have vinyl and tapes out!!!! Support vinyl!! Mail Me if youd like the addy for the guitarist Azter, whom also runs Horror-Records, where you can buy rare and cool, vinyl mostly, but also other things. This is something you should definatly check out, as they truly do have their own style! And as with Apollyon, I am NOT maiing this a good review, bc I know the band, and wish to promote my satanic allies just by words!! You will find this out for yourselves, if you buy this album! Horror Records has gotten a new address btw, which I will write when I have it handy. Ave Satanas!! rating: 8 out of 10.
Diabolical Masquerade - "The Phantom Lodge" (1997)
Cool black metal album by Katatonia-member Blackheim. This is very varied, as you get both pure black metal songs, heave metal songs, trash metal and other things on this cd!! Very different and varied album!! Buy! Rating: 8 out of 10.
Dimmu Borgir - "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant" (1997)
Studio-album from these norse black metallers. Pretty cool black, with also some thrash-influences here and there. The vocals are also cool enough, and the production is very clear but at the same time dark and gloomy. This is pretty cool, but tends to annoy Me. Rating: 7,5 out of 10.
Dimmu Borgir - "Spiritual Black Dimensions" (1999)
The newest album from norse blacksters Dimmu Borgir. Much in the same vein as the previous album, only better on all fronts. Nagash has left after the recording, and new keyboardist Mustis has joined. I like one or two tracks of this record, but (as usual) the rest is boring. I only listen to those couple of tracks, so I only review them. Rating: 8 out of 10.
Dödheimsgard - "Kronet Til Konge" (1996?)
Debut-album by this great norse Black Metal act! Featuring the members Fenriz, Vicotnik and Aldrahn from pretty well-known other black metal acts, this rules!!!! Its pretty much like Darkthrone, where Fenriz is from. Primitive, blasphemic and dark black metal with cold thin prduction as Darkthrone! Great satanic lyrics, written by Aldrahn. Fenriz does the vocals, and he does is pretty good. Hes not the greatest black metal singer, but hes still pretty good. Buy this is you like black metal a little like the Darkthrone way!! Rating: 8,5 out of 10.

Emperor/Enslaved - "Enslaved/Hordanes Land" (1993?)
Split cd with these great norse black metal acts!! This is the best albums I think from both bands, and its raw and great black metal, as its supposed to be, and as I like it!! No lyrics printed, but Emperors are supposedly satanic, while Enslaved sing and play about the old nordic gods and myths. This is really great music for a black metal fan!!!! Buy!!! Rating: 9,5 out of 10.
Emperor - "In The Nightside Eclipse" (1994)
The legendary album by mighty norse black metallers Emperor!! This album is SO great!! Its one of the absolute classics in black metal history, and clearly worth the attention it has had. The musick is, well typical Emperor. With synth used greatly and with a cool sense of dark harmonies. This was (in case you didnt know) made before Samoth and Faust was sent to prison, and before Tchort left/got kicked out. You will not get dissappointed by this brilliant piece of black metal, even though it does not (in my opinion) top theior best: the Emperor-mini. Still: BUY!!!! Rating: 9,5 out of 10.
Emperor - "Reverence" (1997)
This single marks a pretty big step for Emperor I think. Theyve stopped using corpsepaint, and the music is not so raw and cold black metal, but as they call ot: Sophisticated Black Metal Art. Still They are one of the greatest acts in a ever growing (and shitty at most) black metal scene!! This features one new track (which is cool!!), an old track /also cult, but not as good), and an instrumental re-recording of the classic from the "In The Nightside Eclipse"-album. This last one is quite special, as it sounds like a huge orchestra, and it really creates a great modd. The is also a video for the new track, which you can watch on your computer. Awesome video!!!! Well, all in all, this single rules!! Rating: 7,5 out 10.
Great album!!! The majestic Emperor is back, with a new album after the very okay single "Reverence". The title-track from the single is also on here, and as all the other tracks, it kills!! The vocals are now not just black, but sometimes Ihsahn breaks out in wild clear singing, and it works very well indeed!! I must say, that I prefer the old style of singing (that would be only black), but still this is awesome! And as he doesnt sing clearly THAT much, its very good to listen to. Two new members have joined. Trym of Enslaved and a guy named Alver. They fit the band well, and especially the drumming of Trym is great!! All in all a great album, that should satisfy alot of majestic Black Metal freaks!! There are almost always some minusses, and here it would be that I think they should have kept their corpsepaint! And this is still nowhere near the older stuff. But anywho, the music is still cool, and so is the cover, and all in all that makes this a great Black Metal-album!! Rating: 8,5 out of 10.
Enslaved - "Frost" (1994)
The classic album from Enslaved, and perhaps the one theyre most known for. This is truly great musick (needless to say its not my favourite by them). On this you will find such classic tracks as "Loke" and "Isöders Dronning" and there is really no point in not buying this album. If you dont have it already of course, and I guess alot of you do. Anyway, nothing realy bad about this, onto the rating.. Rating: 9 out of 10.
Enslaved - "Blodhemn" (1998)
New album by Enslaved!! After the boring "Eld" Enslaved strikes back with a killer-album!! New drummer Dirge Rep (from Gehenna) does an awesome job at crushing drums and the vocals are also great!! It comes in a great digipack, and its pretty hard to find anything truly negative about this! Still, my undisputed fave by Enslaved is "Hordanes Land", which is the ultimate viking-metal classic in my ears!! This is still a killer album though, and I encourage all to buy it, if you like fast and devestating viking metal!! Rating: 8,5 out of 10.
F
Feuersturm - "Black Metal Compilation" (1997)
Great compilation on 2 cds is what we have here!!! Here are some of the bands featured: Mayhem, Immortal, Marduk, Enslaved, Emperor and Satyricon. Need I say more??? Buy!! Rating: 9,5 out of 10.
G
Gehenna - "Adimiron Black" (1998)
The newest album from norse Gehenna, and their first on Moonfog. This is a totally fucking killer album!!! Its not like their earlier albums (even though they kill to). There are clear thrash-influences in here between all the harsh and brutal Black Metal. This is truly great!! With the departure of Dirge Rep. (Who left to join Enslaved) a new drummer named Blod has joined the unholy ranks. He plays great!! Very violent, strong and hard drumming, and theres really nothing to complain about. If you like brutal Black Metal from a very competent band, then this little disc is definatly worth the attention! But this is also for those who enjoy brutal thrash! Rating: 9 out of 10.
Gorgoroth - "Pentagram" (1996)
I think you all know this unholy band hailing from Norway. If not, you suck! This is cold, grim, evil and blasphemous Black Metal along the lines of Darkthrone. Im having a hard time finding anything really negative about this, as this is just the way I like Black Metal best. A warning should go out though , to all those who doesnt like Black Metal unless its drowning in female vocals or tons of keyboards!! This is NOT for you!! But its perfect for all who enjoys good old Black Metal the way it was meant to be! Samoth of mighty Emperor also plays on this recording btw. Rating: 8 out of 10.
Gorgoroth - "Antichrist" (1996)
The second assault of unholy Black Metal from the great band Gorgoroth. I could actually simply refer to the "Pentagram"-review, as its much the same. Doesnt matter though as this is still very high class Black Metal, with no fucking compromises whatsoever!! No trendie pussywipped shit here!! Frost is doing the drums and along with the vocals of both Hat and Pest (especially the clear singing!!) they are the clearest improvements from "Pentagram". Still unholy fucking Black Metal, not for lightsearching wimps!! Rating: 8,5 out of 10.
I
Immortal - "Pure Holocaust" (1993)
The second album from these norse black metallers!! All of you know them Im sure, and you should, cause theyre one of the greatest!! This is my fave Immortal-album btw. Its raw, its fast and its cold as Hell!! hehehe.. Classics as "The Sun No Longer Rises" and "As The Eternity Opens" helps to make this not only the best from Immortal, but also one of the best norse Black Metal (or holocaust metal, whatever? ) efforts ever in my book!!! Buy this!!!!!!! Rating: 9,5 out of 10.
Immortal - "Battles In The North" (1995)
Third album by these masters of Nebular frost!! Its not as good as the last one I think, but its still cool!! The epic "Blashyrkh (Mighty Ravendark) is also featured here, along with tracks like the title-track and "Throned By Blackstorms". The production annoys Me though, and it sounds a bit messy at times. Still, a worthy follower to "Pure Holocaust". Rating: 8 out of 10.
Immortal - "Blizzard Beasts" (1997)
Next album from Immortal. I think its a bit more deathlike now, and that may be because of touring with Morbid Angel. I dont know. Its still fast as Hell black metal, and the lyrics are as always about snow, frost and the North. This is quite a setback from the older records I think, but still its listenable (at times) and an okay investment, if you like the style. You should get all the others first though. Rating: 5 out of 10.
Immortal - "At The Heart Of Winter" (1999)
The newest piece of Winter Metal from norse Immortal. Demonaz is now out of the band, but he has written the lyrics, and I think he manages them. But now the playing is up to Abbath and Horgh, and they do it better than they have in a long time!!! I would actually say that this is their best album since "Pure Holocaust". Hmmm well not quite sure there anyway, but its cool!! Six tracks featured, and not one lasts under 6 minutes. Not a problem at all though, as they have put together some of the greatest tracks Ive heard in a very long time. Its not just all-out speed now, but we also get some heave metal riffs, and great melodies. There are still very fast parts of course, but they arent many. Anyway, these are clearly some of the most well-composed tracks ever to emerge from Blashyrkh. The cover is (for the first time) not a picture of the band btw. Its a very cool painting that shows a great wintry castle in the middle of glaciers and mountains of ice. At the heart of winter. Ive bought it btw in a special box (limited to 10000) and this only makes it better!! Only real bad thing about this, is the pictures in the cover of Horgh. Its totally holarious!!! ANyway, you should see that for yourself!!! Also I realy prefer the style of "Pure Holocaust" and "Diabolical Fullmoon..", and they can never top that I think. Rating: 8 out of 10.
Isengard - "Høstmørke" (1995)
One man band by mighty Fenriz of Darkthrone, Storm, Neptune Towers and early Dödheimsgard! This is his second album, and its half folk metal (like Storm) and half Black Metal (somewhat like Darkthrone). Its really great I think, as Fenriz is good in both genres! Is you like Darkthrone and Storm, this is something youll like too!!! I kamp med kvitekrist!! Rating: 8,5 out of 10.
K
Katatonia - "Brave Murder Day" (1996)
At first I was in kind of a doubt, whether to put this on as black metal or what. I decided to though, as some of the songs are pretty black. Half of the album is actually "blackish" for lack of a better word, and the other half is sad gloomy metal. The vocals are mostly black but in some tracks they also become clear for a while, which works very well! The lyrics are sad and pretty well written. All in all, a fairly good album. Rating: 8 out of 10.
Kvist - "For Kunsten Maa Vi Evig Vike" (1996)
The first thing that hit Me was the incredibly boring an non-informative cover/booklet!! But fuck that, since the music is actually okay. I have literally none expectations towards this whatsoever, so it struck Me as a surprise, that this is actually quite good Black Metal! Aside from the boring cover and the rideculous name, this is pretty good quality sometimes melodic Black Metal. Only sex tracks featured, but they are mostly quite long, and they dont become boring. An okay release! Rating: 7 out of 10.
M
Marduk - "Heaven Shall Burn, When We Are Gathered" (1996?)
One of the very best albums I think from swedish black metallers Marduk!! The style is pretty much like Dark Funeral (of course very different at the same time), only the lyrics are a bit less "direct" you might say. To put it short, Marduk doesnt use the word Satan, Devil or Lucifer in every line. The musick and the vocals are cold chilling, and makes a very good feeling for antichristian terror!!!! This is devestatingly raw but at the same time wellproduced black metal!! If you like DF, youll like this too!!! Rating: 9 out of 10.
Marduk - "Glorification" (1996)
A mini album from swedish black metallers Marduk!! On this youll find 5 songs. One of them is a remix (I cant really hear whats remixed..) version of "Glorification Of The Black God" from "Heaven Shall Burn..." and the next 4 tracks are different covers of old godly metal bands: Destruction, Piledriver (2) and Bathory!! All great bands, and Marduk does it well! Especially the Bathory-track "The Return Of Darkness & Evil"!! All in all a cool little mini, that should be in every Marduk-fan´s collection! Rating: 7,5 out of 10.
Marduk - "Live In Germania" (1997)
A live album (well fucking obviously!!) by evil Marduk!! And what an album!!!! 11 unholy tracks of satanic Black Metal of highest quality and a cover of mighty Destruction´s "Total Desaster" makes this a fucking awesome album!! The sound is really good, and you can hear all the instruments well and theres really much power on the production. The pics in the cover are also very cool, and all in all (have I said that before?) this is a classic live album, that almost (only almost!!) joins the ranks of Mayhem - "Live In Leipzig" and Motörhead - "No Sleep Till Hammersmith"!!! (Of course the ultimate king on the live-album throne is and will always be: Slayer - "Live - Decade Og Aggression"!!!!) That aside, GET THIS ALBUM!! Rating: 9 out of 10.
Mayhem - "Deathcrush" (1987)
YYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! Mayhem kicks the air out of all mockers of Black Metal, and leave them choking on their bloody guts!! hahaha.. This is the debut ("Pure Fucking Armageddon" aside) from the oldest norwegian Black Metal band, and this stuff kills!!! Really a cult record, and if you for some reason dont have this, GET IT!!! This is classic metal, and belongs in every collection as well as all other releases by Mayhem!!! I never fully understood the first track or intro "Silvester Anfang", which I dont think is that cool. A small prize to pay though, for with the merciless riffs of Euronymous and the rawness of it all, this is clerly cult!!! Rating: 8,5 out of 10.
Mayhem - " From The Darkest Past" (1994?)
Pretty cool recording from a Mayhem-rehearsal is what Ive got here. The is no vocals (as Dead was.. eeeh dead), and this is the line up: Euronymous (guitar), Count Grishnacth (bass) und Hellhammer (drums). The sound is pretty good, so no complaints there. Its recorded May 16th, 1992 btw. All the tracks from "De Mysteriis..." is featured here except "From The Dark Past" for some reason. Anyway, cult record to own!! Rating: 8,5 out of 10.
Mayhem - "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" (1993/1994)
You all know this album! If you dont, you have come to a wrong place!! This is one of THE records, not only in Black Metal, but in all of metal history!!!!! The vocals of Atilla and the drumming of Hellhammer along with the guitars of Euronymous (and perhaps the bass of Varg Vikernes?) makes this ONE KILLER ALBUM!!! Its hard to describe this with words, bc there are so many dark feeling and emotions involdev within this piece of Black Metal. If anyone ever says that Euronymous died for nothing, they should be burned at the stake! This is one of the blackest mark to leave, and will forever serve as a fist in the face of god!!! Rating: 10 out of 10!!!
Mayhem - "Live In Leipzig" (1996)
Also clearly classic album by the masters of Black Metal, Mayhem!! Recorded in Germany 26/11-1990, and featuring a great mixture of tracks from "De Mysteriis..." (which wasnt released yet, but the tracks were written) and "Deathcrush" and with a cool dirty sound, this is destined to be a classic!! It comes in a digipack btw. Well, if you like Mayhem, and if you wanna see them live and evil, buy this album!! Rating: 9,5 out of 10.
Mayhem - "Wolf´s Lair Abyss" (1997)
Comeback album by legendary Mayhem, after the deaths of both Dead and Euronymous there is NO TRUE MAYHEM-FEELING LEFT!!! The only new member on this album is Blasphemer from Aura Noir, and he plays ok. They all do actually, and Maniac´s vocals are really sick!! This is cool Black Metal, dont get Me wrong, but its just not... Mayhem!! Dammit, its hard to explain! To put is this way: (and I dont care if you fucking understand it or not!) Mayhem died two times: first time with Dead in april 1991, and second time with Euronymous in August 1993!! This is cool black metal, but its just not MAYHEM!! Rating: 6,5 out of 10.
Mysticum - "In The Streams Of Inferno" (1996)
This is the first entire album I heard with this norwegian group. They awoke my hungry interest for their extreme satanic and evil black metal back at the "Nordic Metal..."-album, and the two tracks from that one is also featured here. Its fast, furious, evil, well-played, satanic, dark and all in all everything it has to be, to be a great black metal album! The drums are computer-drums I think, but they still fit the musick perfectly, and they really have their own style. One thing I could have asked for is a couple of more tracks, but that means othing, NOTHING in the big picture. The fact is, that there isnt a single tracks here, that sucks, or is even a little bad. This is a must-have, and as far as I have heard, all of Mysticum´s musick is. No more talk, buy this dark album!! Rating: 8,5 out of 10.
N
Nocturnal Breed - "Aggressor" (1997)
WOW!!!!!! When I first saw this, I expected Black Metal, but this is totally excellent school thrash/black metal!!!!! The members have been in Satyricon and some other known band (I think) and since the vocals carry some Black Metal into the musick, and b/c of their background, Ill review this under Black Metal. Trust Me, this is very cool musick, with the right attitude also! Listen to Destroyer and Ed Damnator´s statement in the booklet: "Stay evil, feel hate, think war and live your life fighting" YEAH!!! This is truly great! Cool digipack cover doesnt hurt, and lyrics written totally in the old vein, helps make this a Hell of an album!!! Buy!! Rating: 9 out of 10.
Yeah!!! This has got to be the ultimate tribute album! Of course to legendary Euronymous, and bands like Marduk, Mortiis, Emperor and Dissection have contributed to this great album. Half of the tracks are previously unreleased, and the cover is very informative and features one side of information on every band!! Truly great cover, and there is no other option, than to buy this one!!! Rating: 10 out of 10.
Old Man´s Child - "The Pagan Prosperity" (1997)
Second newest album from norse Old Man´s Child. This is a fairly good album, with alot of cool parts, and great cover and production. It has some thrashy parts in between and sometimes the black vocal becomes a deep (Peter Steele of Type O Negative) voice, which works great!! It differs between ok fast parts, but also some melodic parts, with a bit of synth mixed in between. An ok album!! Rating: 7,5 out of 10.
P
Peccatum - "Strangling From Within" (1999)
This is a norse band consisting of Ihsahn (of Emperor), his wife Ihriel and her brother Lord PZ (whatever the Hell kinda name that is???) I would say they play half and half black metal and classical musick. A good combination i think. They all sing, while Ihsahn does all the instruments. The drums are computer, but pretty good sounding and fucking fast in the 3rd track "The Change". Some of the tracks are just pure synth, in the vein of "Opus A Satana" from Emperor´s "Reverence"-single. It all sounds very good. Ihriel sings fucking great, and we all know Ihsahn´s voice, but this time he sometimes delivers a scream VERY much like immortal King Diamond! Cool! The production is good, and you can hear everything thats going on. All in all a cool fresh album that all fans of Emperor and perhaps slightly Mysticum will probably like. Rating: 8,5 out of 10.
R
Ragnarok - "Arising Realm" (1996)
A fairly good album by Ragnarok. Its nothing new or exiting but its okay to listen to. Shagrath of Dimmu Borgir playes all synths on this album btw. To put is shortly: this is pretty normal black metal, without any really great highlights, but still withoutbeing a total fuckup. Rating: 6,5 out of 10.
S
Samael - "Ceremony Of Opposites" (1994)
This is actually the only album Ive heard with Samael, but thats ok, because this one KILLS!!! The first thing that hit Me was of course the cover, which shows the head of jesus, with a lot of nails hammered into his ugly skull! Truly a great painting! Of course the music have to be good aswell, as the cover doesnt make a good album by itself. The music is a kind of thrashy black metal, and it truly rules!!!! Synth are used sometimes, and it helps build up a great atmosphere. This is also good to headbang to at times. Check a track like "Baphomet´s Throne", and see what I mean. Good clear production also, so this album is highly recommendable. Rating: 9 out of 10.
Satyricon - "Dark Medieval Times" (1993?)
Debut album by norse black metallers Satyricon!! This is truly great stuff! Satyr does all the instruments (which also include flutes and accoustic guitars to name a few) while Frost is the drummer. This is very varied and cool black metal with alot of different perts and pieces in it. Its very detailed, and it makes a good medieval atmosphere! This isnt very fast, but then again, I dont think it would either fit or give the same atmosphere that it does. A great debut!!! Rating: 8 out of 10.
Satyricon - "The Shadowthrone" (1994)
Second album by this great band. This is in my opinion by far the best ever to emerge from the satyric camp of unholy black metal!! Every track on this album is so well structured and thought-through and it simply kills!! Again, the style is like the first one, but there is an entirely different atmosphere to this one. More of a (for lack of a better word) "foresty" or "naturistic" feeling to it. A thing Satyricon is very good at, is actually to make the feelings that tey seem to express on each album. Samoth of Emperor have joined the ranks at this album to lay bass btw. He left after another album was made. This is truly brilliant black metal in my eyes, and if you are planning to buy just one Satyricon-album, then this should be it!!! Rating: 10 out of 10.
Satyricon/Enslaved - "The Forest Is My Throne/Yggdrasill" (1996)
Split-cd with these two great maetal acts!! It contains two old demos by the bands, and lets start with Satyricon. Three old tracks plus a new track is featured, and the first three reminds of those on "Dark Medieval..". One of the tracks is actually fromthat record too. The fourth is also a good tracks, which raps up the Satyriconic efforts on this cd. Good musick as always! Then to Enslaved. Six tracks are featured, and they do not reach the level of Satyricon. The production is too bad I think. The tracks themselves though are good. They are about in the same vein as on "Hordanes Land",and therefore good!!' If you like the older stuff of these two great bands, this cd (which btw comes in a cool digi-pack) is truly a great investment!! Rating: 8,5 out of 10.
Satyricon - "Nemesis Divina" (1996)
The next album in line of great records mighty Satyricon!! This time it is pure hatred towards christianity that blasts out through the speakers, and this is indeed a well-made black metal album!!! Great riffs, drumming (pretty fast this time!!) and feeling again is top quality, and I think you will all like this album as well as the others!!! Playing guitars on this album is also Nocturno Culto (which is called Kvelduld here) btw. He does a good job! The cover this time is truly a piece of art with great pictures and good layout!! Buy this one!!! Rating: 9,5 out of 10.
Satyricon - "Megiddo" (1997)
Just got this record, and this is actually the first time Ive actually heard it all the way through. Everyone I know says its fucking bad and all kinds of shit. I dont agree completely. The first track is a remix of "The Dawn Of A New Age" remixed by Apoptygma Berzerk. I cant really say I have that much against this track, as I enjoy electronic musick aswell. Naturally it doesnt come anywhere near the original, but still I can listen to it. Second track is a re-recording of "The Dark Castle In The Deep Forest" from "Dark Medieval Times". I liked the track of "Dark..." and I like this one too. Not really that big difference, but slightly different even though not better than original, still okay. Then theres a live-version of "Forhekset" from the "Nemesis Divina"-album. Not the greatest sound, but as the cover states, its recorded on "a shitty cassette deck", so that might explain it. Still, its an okay version. The last track is "Orgasmatron" by mighty Motörhead. This is an electronic version played by Satyricon (and maybe Apoptygma Berzerk?) and its also not bad. I (of course) love the original, and this fresh electronic version is not the worst cover Ive heard. I like it better that Sepultura´s version, thats for fucking sure! Well, onto the rating.. Rating: 7,5 out of 10.
Satyricon - "Intermezzo II" (1999)
The new mini from Satyricon. Once again they have changed their style a little, and they are now a little more brutal, which cant be complained about. The first track is also featured on the full-length and is called "A Moment Of Clarity". A very cool track ineed, if you ask Me! I cant really compare it to their other stuff, so youll have to hear it for yourself! Next up is a cover of "INRI" by Sarcophago. This is fucking fast!!!! I see it like this: you cant play faster, before it starts sounding like shit! Very brutal and fucking great! Now a little remix of the title-track from "Nemesis Divina". Not much have changed really, as far as I can hear. The instrumental-part in the end has been cut off, and that good i think! Never really liked that one. The last track is also a new one, and this is not featured on the full length. Its called "Blessed From below". This is very different coming from Satyricon! It starts off with synth, and then guitars and drums join, but its always kept in this weird stylle, but let me tell you, its cool! You really hae to hear it for yourselves, coz I cant explain it well enough. Rating: 8 out of 10.
Setherial - "Nord..." (1996)
Debut-album by swedish black metallers Setherial! This is a pretty awesome album, much the same style as Emperor. Perhaps a little too much? Anyway, they use the synth the same way, and the vocals also remind alot of those of Ihsahn. Pretty lengthy tracks, and all in all a cool album. If youre into Emperor, youll like this too! Rating: 8,5 out of 10.
Storm - "Nordavind" (1994?)
Project by Fenriz (Darkthrone), Satyr (Satyricon) and Kari Rueslåtten (ex 3rd and the mortal). This is norse folk-metal, much in the vein of the first couple of tracks on Isengard´s "Høstmørke"-album. Only clear vocals by all the members, and this music creates a certain proud feeling of being from the North. The feeling is always there, but musick like this helps bring it forth. A minus would be, that no lyrics are printed, but if you understand norwegian, you should be able to understand most of it. A great album! Rating: 9 out of 10.
Thy Serpent - "Lords Of Twilight" (1997)
I think this should be described dark metal actually. Its old demo songs by this finnish band, and its pretty okay musick. Every second track is pure synth, and all the memebrs of the band play synth on at least one track. The other tracks are kind of mid-paced dark metal with pretty good vocals. Not bad, but not great either. Rating: 7 out of 10.
Ulver - "Kveldssanger" (1996?)
Well, well, well.. it seems like Ulver changes their style for every album they make! The first was a good album of pretty mixed black metal (a bit like Satyricon´s "Dark Medieval..."), and this (the second) is purely acoustic with clean male voices. The third album is raw and primitive black metal, and what I have heard of the (yet to come) newest album, the new is some sort of electronic stuff!! Well, enough about that. This album is as said purely accoustic with guitars, flutes, drums and other stuff, and male choir-singing by the members. It features 13 tracks, and its good to relax to, but it doesnt beat the other stuff. Rating: 8 out of 10.
Ulver - "Themes from William Blake´s The Marriage Between Heaven And Hell" (1999 2cd)
New album by Ulver. This time they have changed their style totally again. It now has nothing whatsoever to do with black metal! Its a more techical, cyberlike, technoambient or something like that. The production is great, and the cover is okay. Its a double cd, and theres a fucking lot of musick on both discs!! They change between clearly sung male vocals, female vocals both sung and spoken, and a dark male spoken voice. A couple of the tracks also feature some cool riffs, and are actually metal, but its only a few. On the last tracks on the second cd, Ihsahn, Samoth and Fenriz contribute with spoken vocals btw. All in all a pretty cool album. Very different from alot of others, but still a pretty cool disc. I would advise you to listen to it, before buying it, as it is pretty strange. Nevertheless I like this!! Rating: 9 out of 10.
Venom - "Acid Queen" (1991)
English black metallers Venom strike here, with a good little album, featuring such classics as: "Bloodlust", "Manitou", "Acid Queen" and "Seven Gates Of Hell". Im sure youre all familiar with theyr style, and this is pretty typical stuff by Venom. Thta is good though!! A good little disc. Rating: 8 out of 10.
Venom - "Leave Me In Hell" (1993)
A compilation from Venom. 16 great tracks with such classic tunes as: "Powerdrive", "Black Metal", "Witching Hour" and "Sons Of Satan". A great compilation if you like Venom! Rating: 8,5 out of 10.
Venom - "Cast In Stone" (1997)
Venom strike back, with one Hell of a comeback-album!! This is totally Venom, but still you can hear, that it suits the late ninetees, and these tracks are truly cool! One misser though is "Destroyed And Damned", which sounds a bit like the new Posertallica!! As a bonus-treat you get a bonus disc with re-recordings of old Venom-classics, and they have never sounded better! Venom is back, as for that I hail!!! Rating: 9 out of 10.
Wongraven - "Fjelltronen" (1996?)
Solo-project by Satyr. It seems like everything he plays in sounds good to Me, and this is no different. This is purely synth, though with a little talking/singing in clear deep voice now and then. This music creates a great atmosphere, and its perfect to just lay down and liten to at high volume. It can take you dark places, if you want it to. Great album!! Rating: 9 out of 10.
And that ends my reviewing of my black metal-collection! I think its gone pretty well, but tell me what you think, if anyone ever reads this.
