Yesteryear

its funny how the simple things
will take us back in time
reflections of a yesteryear
that has long been left behind

brillant colors of autum leaves
rustling at your feet
the pattern of a patchwork quilt
layed out for all to see

a long walk down a country lane
a look with half a smile
that special feel of hand in hand
that makes it all worthwhile

it takes you back to a time
a picnic lunch for two
a blanket spread beneath a tree
to cover the morning dew

alluring sense of old-fashioned love
that we always look to find
from the simple things in life
that we often let slip by

remember its the little things
you may only get one chance
to take a stroll back in time
for a yesteryear romance

Thoughts

As I spend each day alone
with nothing but my thoughts
I tend to think about the things
I somehow have forgot

The tin box full of buttons
that grandma use to keep
going barefoot in the summertime
with the grass beneath my feet

Slamming of the old screen door
each time the wind blew hard
thoughts of playing hide and seek
in the backyard after dark

The buttons have all disappeared
along with grandma's tin
summer fades away the chance
to go barefoot once again

I will no longer hear the slamming
with the blowing of the wind
the old screen door lays broken
in the backyard I played in

Many things in life have changed
becoming nothing but my thoughts
what always will remain the same
are the things I have forgot

This many people have stopped by
