The cone of silence is an anti-bugging device that's keeps unathorized characters from listening in on top secret reports, plans, ideas, etc. The COS resides in the Chief's office in the secret spy organization of CONTROL. The COS itself is a big plastic object with two giant bubbles on either side of it. It is lowered down from above the Chief's desk and placed over the head and upper shoulders of those that are using it. the drawback to this device is that it rarely works. In the past, it has had a devestating echo ring, has gotten stuck in it's down position, wasn't able to produce sound, etc. In recent years, it has tried to be fixed and now hangs over the desk of the new Chief, Maxwell Smart. The COS today has experienced such setbacks as breaking off the ropes that hold it and crashing down on the Chief's desk, blowing up, has had the songs of Pat Boone played in it, and has been taken by the CIA. Only two people have ever asked to use the COS: Maxwell Smart and his son, Zachary.
