CHRIS'S WINNING PERSONAL AD
When I first moved to Austin, Texas, I stayed away from Personal ads. I soon discovered a lot of my friends, men and women, were both writing their own ads or responding to others. Most people took advantage of the free ads in the weekly newspaper that was mostly devoted to entertainment in the area and social/political concerns. You could place an ad of 25 words and also leave a voice message if you wanted for people to call. After a while I responded to a few of the ads but when you call up to listen to the voice message you have to pay. That was how the Chronicle was able to put hundreds of ads in for free. So I eventually decided to write up my own ad and also recorded a message. Then they ran the ad but left out one whole line which made my ad look somewhat retarded. So the next week they ran it I hurried to read it to see if it was printed okay. Well I mistakenly read the wrong section, the area where people pay big bucks to place an ad. There while I was looking for my ad, wondering why there were so few ads there, I saw this one. There were several things about it that I liked. One was that he didn't ask for a perfect woman, demanding a blond, with a small waist and big breasts. Maybe it was the simplicity of it, like a nice normal guy, wants a nice normal girl for a nice normal relationship. Also his phone number is so close to the number I grew up with all my life so I felt it was almost like a sign, an omen. So here is his ad

That's all it took for me to call and see who would write this simple yet nice ad.
Now here is what my ad said and let me tell you I spent a long time working on this.
Spiritual - Not Religious. Into music, dancing, playing, sunsets, symphonies, exploring, baring souls. DWFNSDDFHWP 5'7" brown, blue. Prefer DSWMNSDDFHWP 35 - 50, honest, compassionate, passionate, optimistic, spunky. Curious?
Then I went to a silly mixer sponsored by one of the local radio stations and the Chronicle. The reward for going was you got to place a larger ad for free. So I really worked on this one and here is what it said.
LET'S ENJOY LIFE, love, laughter, learning. Music flowing, symponies, Beatles, Tish, country, folk. Dance, movies, dining, photography, beautiful Austin. Sunsets, camping, swimming, splashing. Sensual, spiritual-not religious, sharing dreams, DWFNSDDFHWP, 5'7", 130, brown, blue, 44. UB SWMNSDDFHWP 35-50? honest, spunky, compassionate, with twinkling eyes. Fun,friendship, maybe passionate romance following.
So that is what I wrote. I started getting lots of calls too, but you don't give out your home number like Chris did in his ad. These were safe because you would call in to a number they gave you and you would retrieve your messages. The guys would leave a message for you and most of them had also listened to your message too. I had already called Chris by the time my long ad came out and I mostly took phone numbers and returned the calls perhaps talking to each guy once. I told them all that although they sounded nice that I was already involved with someone and if it didn't work out would they mind if I called them in the future.By the way, do you want to know what all those initials mean? Okay here is a translation for you... Divorced single white female non smoking disease drug free height weight proportional. Cool huh!
