Create    A    Spiritual    Journal

Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud; and He shall hear my voice. Psalm 55:17

As you embark on this Bible study, an invaluable tool would be a spiritual journal. A journal helps you keep important information close at hand. You can make one out of a blank book available for purchase at most bookstores, a three-ring binder which lets you add or delete as necessary, or keep it on computer. Below is my suggestions for what you should keep in your journal.

You should have a "Milestones" section. In it you should have your personal testimony. What is in it is entirely up to you, but your salvation and ministry experience would be a start. Also, you should keep a record of trials and God's grace in time of need. This will be invaluable to you later in life as you are experiencing hard spots to remind you that God is always with you.

You should have a "Meditations" section. This is where you should keep a record of prayer requests and how God answers them.

You should have a "Ministry" section. This is kind of like a daily organizer. In it should be a record of who you encouraged and how, special occasions to remember, phone calls to make, errands to help people with, etc.

You should have a "Memorization" section. Here you keep list of verses you wish to commit to memory and how often you go over them. It may be helpful to write why this verse is important and what it means to you.

You should have a "Maturing" section. This would be where you keep notes and insights from Bible study or sermons, devotional questions and other things that really touch your heart or make a change in your life.

You should have a "Daily Reflection" section. Here is where you keep your thoughts, kind of like a diary, along with writing out prayers to God. Writing out your thoughts and feelings is very therapeutic. Also put little clips -- comics, poems, quotes, etc.

Working in your journal daily will help you be more aware of God in your day-to-day life. Our personal relationship with Him is not just for Sundays!
