Hereditary Heart Disease
Many breeds of dogs have been found to have
hereditary forms of heart disease. In some cases the disorders are
life threatening. Responsible breeders are doing their best to reduce
and if possible eliminate these problems from their breeds. This can
best be accomplished by having all breeding stock examined by a Board
Certified Canine Cardiologist.
Please note that there are many causes of murmurs
in dogs, including heartworm. Some can be found to be "innocent" and
will cause the dog no difficulty as it ages.
