In the modern world, the riddle has developed into a sort of entertainment -- nice, but nothing serious or substantial. An example is the annual Israeli Bible Quiz -- that which Ben Gurion initiated -- which at first was a national event, but which has been displaced to the bottom of national consciousness (in part with the aid of Arik Einstein's spoof). The quiz is not deemed to be a learning method, and cannot be considered an expression of someone's knowledge the way that a test can (which is taken after learning and preparation of a defined study area).
