Hawaiian Lobelia


Hawaiian lobelias generally gauge the rainfall level
and usually do best in the wettest forests. Typically
they are not viewed until you enter the rainforest where
accumulations of rain exceed 100 inches annually. These
lobelias are noted for the parallel evolutionary development
with Hawaiian Depanids (Honeycreeper birds), their natural
polinators. Unfortunately most Honeycreepers are extinct
and now we see trouble in the viability of the lobelias.
