La`au Elua....Number Two Plant
`Ie`ie
A viny climber only known from the
Hawaiian Islands, `Ie`ie is located
in wet forests. This is an endemic
Pandanus, categorized in the same family
as the Polynesian introduced Hala tree.
Uses included plaitings from the leaves
made into small mats, the roots too woven
into baskets and warrior helmets.
