Kukae NeNe
Coprosma ernodioides
Kukae is anything unpleasant, and in Hawaiian it is feces or
in this case Kukae NeNe means "goose-shit". Scat of the Hawaiian
NeNe geese turns black after eating these berries, hence the name
in Hawaiian. Kukae NeNe is edible but also emetic in quantities
therefore limited consumption is suggested. This is a common
Hawaiian endemic native of the coffee family found in
Haleakala Crater of East Maui.
