This is Gambu, or Jambu a native of India which culturally
regards it as tree which bears the golden fruit of immortality.
The Rose Apple is widespread and weedy through Hawaii low-land
wet forests. This is a very aggresive tree which can displace
nearly every other plant in its way. So far no action is being
taken to remove this severe encroachment on the native habitat.
Many see the tree as a pleasant shade keeper and one that produces
delicious fruit which tastes like Juicy Fruit Gum.
