La`au Kanaha Kumamalua......42nd Plant
Poha, Cape Gooseberry
Physalis peruviana
This is one of the more delicious fruits I have ever tasted
and I find it strange that it's never available for sale unless
preserved. Usually it is found on low to mid-slope of the
Hawaiian mountains, doing best at 3000-4000' ASL. The Poha
fruits through-out the year in Hawaii and here grows as a
perennial herb. It is believed native to South America.
