  • Brief Summary of the Series

The Redwall series is an intriguing collection of stories that are based in the fantasy world of Redwall Abbey. Each book tells another story of the abbey, may it be the history or the present. There is usually a hero that dominates the storyline of each book. The main hero throughout all of the books is Martin the Warrior who comes up alive and as a spirit. He is considered the guardian of the abbey.

In the world of Redwall, small animals such as mice, badgers, and moles struggle to survive from the onslaughting rats and evil vermin. The animals take on the roles of humans by wielding swords and using war tactics. In all of the books, things start out with the present Redwall Abbey. Usually a traveler will stop by for a rest and in the process will share a story of the history of Redwall. Each book ends with the ending of the story, and the beginning of a new adventure.

  • Ratings

On a scale of 1 through 10 I would heartily give Redwall a high rating. I must admit that while I read the books in this series, I was intrigued and drawn into their rich storylines. Each book personifies the mice and other animals as humans in such a way that you often forget that you are dealing with tiny rodents. Each book has a different story to tell and all of them are a great read. For this reason I would give the Redwall series a rating of 9.

The literature and quality of the writing in the Redwall series is very good. Details of everything are well described and brought to life in your head as you read. The plots catch you in them, so you feel the full effect of all the goings in the books. The Redwall series receives a nine, because there seems to be no value in the books, after you have read them. Unlike Jordan and Tolkien, there is no rich storyline or history to back up the books, so there is no topic for discussion.

Character development: okay, the animals are often alike, but the names are great

Plot/plot development: good, the sequence of events are all linked to eachother

Fantasy theme: powerful, portraying animals as humans

Literature: very good, bringing the book alive

Overall enjoyment: great story books, if you want to whiz through a great book -- try these

  • Closing

In closing, I would recommend Redwall as a good read. If you are looking for a light- fantasy series that will keep you intrigued and content your love for reading, Redwall would be the right series for you. The fact that the characters are all animals might shock you, but you will quickly be drawn into the fine world of Mossflower where the mice survive the pressing hordes of rats.

  • Misc.

So far, I have no misc. information for this series. There are two other books Brian Jacques has written. The first, The Feast of Redwall, is a story/poem that tells about a feast of Redwall. The other is a mystery book which has no connection to Redwall at all (at least I think!). The Redwall series has not concluded yet, and a new book is coming soon.
