6-7 MARY EASTER McCOIN: born 22 July 1883. Never married. She lived with her parents until their death and then she made her home with her sister, Lala Pearl the remainder of her life. Mary Easter was born with a speech impediment and because of this, she was not sent to school (not unusual in the 1880's). Thus it was thought she was mentally retarded and she was not expected to contribute to household responsibilities, however, when all the brothers and sisters were married and no longer at home, it did not take long to discover that she could learn to assist with household activities and also the care of her aged and ill parents. In later years, many of the family felt that it was lack of education and training rather than a limited capacity that influenced her life. She is buried at Popular Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, North Carolina.
