SHORT HISTORY SENSEI McCOIN

Sensei McCoin started martial Arts instruction under Sensei Jerry Horton a Highway Patrol Trooper in 1965. Sensei Horton had just returned from certification in Okinawa. Sensei Horton ran a Goju Ryu school and later was Chief of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

By 1969 Sensei McCoin was enrolled in classes at a Lou Angel school run by "Pete" Angel. Lou Angel was one of the first martial arts instructors in the U.S.. Lou, had trained with Peter Urban and had trained in Japan with Gogan Yamaguchi. Back then kicks and punches were not foam rubber they were your hands and feet.

Two events caused Sensei McCoin to continue martial Arts training.

One. - He was forced into a fight with a former football player who had played on two National Championship teams. He had to try to use the karate, as a result it took six people to load the football player into the ambulance.

Two - That same year Sensei was attacked by a German Sheherd guard dog. With the help of a staff {stick} Sensei was able to prevent the dog from biting him or anyone else. That started the pursuit of weapons training.

Sensei is licensed and certified to teach and give rank in weaons Kobudo. Sensei thinks weapons training should be available to all who are enrolled in a legitimate martial arts school and don't abuse the art.
