Yawara! 1 - 4
(updated 2/19/99)
Yawara is an ordinary high school girl. She has a crush on a cute upperclassman in her school, likes cooking and baking, and likes to hang out with her friends. Yawara wants to keep her ordinary, simple life.

Her grandpa has other plans for her. Inokuma Gigoro is a judo master and a judo champion in his youth. He has been training Yawara since she was little, and his plan is to get Yawara to the top of the judo world.

This series ran in the late 80s, so the art may not be appealing to people are used to the recent anime. Soft colors are used, and no sexy vixens romping about. No mecha either.

Yawara! should have high appeal to shoujo fans, even though the original story (manga) ran in a seinen (young adult male) magazine. The ending song is a similar style to Marmalade Boy's songs.

This series can be watched by all ages and is great for a family.

The subtitles are small, and they're left-aligned for some strange reason. NYTP doesn't change the font color when it's a "thought" (should be white). Some translation errors, but nothing too major.

Genre: judo drama/comedy.
