Rhein/Main Air Force Base, Frankfurt Germany - The only one of its kind among a sea of C-54s, a scattering of C-47s and an occasional C-47 is this new addition to the Rhein/Main Air Force Base, the YC-97A. It is to be tried for air lift use by the 7497th Combined Airlift Task Force Wing of Rhein/Main and it is estimated that its average load will be that of 20 tons. Put out by the Boeing aircraft Company, with 3500 horsepower R-4360 Pratt-Whitney engines, this plane, a sister ship of the B-50, "Lucky Lady II" and one of the airlines' Boeing Stratocruiser, has a top speed of more than 300 mph and can handle up to 53,000 pounds of cargo.
