Here are a few mentions of Michelle in BOI's Update Section:
Michelle Kwan wore the same dress she did when she skated her 'Red Violin' exhibition at the 1999 Worlds in Helsinki. "I have another costume made but it is heavier with long sleeves and I thought this was a better choice for the high altitude," said Kwan. The program is different with some different parts of the music changed for her competitive version of "Red Violin'. She completed six triples and fell on the seventh, her triple flip but still earned a 6.0 from the Austrian judge, Karin Ehrhardt. Kwan skated a mesmerizing performance and her other artistic scores included three 5.8's and five 5.9's.

There is a one page feature on Michelle in the December 1999/January 2000 issue of Cosmogirl! Michelle is part of an article called 'Never Say Never (Don't let insecurity rule your life! These CosmoGIRL's show you how to find your inner confidence!)'. Here is what is mentioned in the magazine:
Michelle Kwan
Ultraconfident Michell Kwan was figure skating's hottest star in 1996: She placed first at both the U.S. Figure Skating Championships and the World Figure Skating Championships. "I felt like I was on top of the world," says the 19-year-old.
The next year, everyone expected she'd win again-everyone except Michelle. "You know how you feel when people's eyes are on you? I felt it. I felt the expectations and the pressure," she recalls. That pressure destroyed her confidence. "All I was thinking was 'What if I don't land this?' or 'What if I fall?'" And a the Nationals, she did fall-twice. "It was one of the most disappointing moments of my life." she writes in her new book The Winning Attitude!: What It Takes to Be a Champion.
With the Olympics just a year away, Michelle forced herself to take an honest look at why she had done so poorly. It wasn't that she hadn't trained hard enough-it was her mind-set. "I'd think about the things that would go wrong," she says. "I needed to turn off the negative voice in my head-I was psyching myself out."
She gave herself an attitude overhaul, studying old tapes to remind herself how confident she used to be. "When you're not feeling so powerful, it's good to keep a little jar of that energy and say 'That's how it felt,'" Michelle says. And the next year, she won the World Championships, the Nationals, and the Olympic silver medal. Her secret, she says is repeating to herself the best piece of advice she ever got: Don't focus on the negative things that can happen, just think about the positive things.
On the one page feature of Michelle, there's a big, gorgeous picture! =) She is wearing an off-white tank top with a hooded top that is resting just off her shoulders. Her skirt is dark gray.

Michelle Kwan
(USA)
Kwan is one of the most popular and best-loved skaters of the decade. In a recent survey she was voted the most appealing female athlete product endorser among advertising agency creative directors and corporate marketing executives. And she's a pretty good skater too. Known for her artistry and grace, Kwan has won 19 perfect marks of 6.0 in her skating career to date plus two World titles [1996 & 1998], three national titles [1996, 1998, & 1999], and an Olympic silver medal [1998]. She has written a book and starred in two Disney television specials. She serves as a national spokesperson for the Children's Miracle Network and co-chairs CMN's ProKids program. She graduated from high school with a 3.6 grade point average and this fall began classes at UCLA. However, Kwan plans to continue to compete nationally and internationally at the eligible level.

Michelle is going to be on the Disney show, 'The Jersey'. They are using her for the promos for the show. Jenny posted this on the MK Forum:

I was just watching "Zenon, girl of the 21st Century" (yeah, I know a 24 year old should have something better to do on a Friday night, but I wanted to see this movie since I read the script -- and almost helped cast it when I was living back in LA), and ANYWAY, to my delight there was a lengthy promo for "The Jersey" at about 8:40 PM (central time). It showed one of the stars (some girl) talking about the show (and explaining that it's about this boy who gets a special gift jersey that turns him -- or his sister I think -- into famous athletes) and they jumped from clip to clip showing different athletes -- I had my eyes peeled for Michelle, of course! They showed some hockey player and the girl was talking about how the actors have to do sports and the athletes have to act. They showed a clip from the show of the girl as the hockey player. Then... and I think I'm leaving something else out here.... but then..... they showed Michelle! I may not be getting this exactly right (and I didn't have my VCR ready), but I think they introduced her as "ice skating star Michelle Kwan" as she was stretching on the ice in a warm-up suit (on the set). Her hair looked really cute! They showed her doing some moves on the ice, and then they interviewed her about the difference between skating and filming a TV show (or something like that). Michelle said working on the set takes a lot of patience because you wait in your trailer, then you film one scene, and then you go back to your trailer, and it's a lot of "hurry up and wait," whereas in skating you always know when it's your time to be on the ice. Sorry I'm probably butchering her words! I think that was about it with Michelle, but there may have been more -- I can't remember everything! Other athletes they showed/mention include a FB player from the SD Chargers, and Lisa Leslie, among others. They said a different athlete is on every week. People on the West coast should tune in at about 9:35 or 9:40 to try to catch it -- and I'm sure it will be on the Disney Channel again, so everyone should keep an eye out. Later, Jenny added: I guess the girl is the boy's cousin because I found this info here: The Jersey Series - 30 minutes Nick Lighter and his cousin Morgan have inherited a unique gift: a jersey with the power to transport them into the lives of their sports heroes. September Airdates: 24 It's on at 6:30 and repeats at 11:30 according to the weekly lineup. I forgot to mention in my summary above, that the clip they showed of the episode with the hockey player looked really cool. They showed the girl all geared up and on the ice, and when she saw her reflection in the glass around the rink, it was the real athlete in the reflection. It sort of reminded me of Quantum Leap (for anyone who watched that show). I don't think Michelle is in the Sept. 24 premiere -- she's probably featured in a future episode with one of the kids becoming her or something!

In the most recent book of Sweet Valley Senior Year #7 - Boy Meets Girl, there is a small mention of Michelle Kwan. Megan wrote that at first, she considered being a figure skater like Michelle Kwan, until she fell hard at the ice rink. Now, she wants to be a writer when she's older. The writer (Francine Pascal) made one mistake, though. She had called Michelle "professional figure skater Michelle Kwan", and of course, we all know that's she's an eligible-skater! =)

Michelle placed second in the World Championships yesterday, with six triples. On her first triple lutz, she stumbled. On her double axel, she singled, and she had a scratchy landing on her triple salchow, but Michelle had a very solid triple flip, and her last triple lutz was perfect. Maria Butyrskaya became the first Russian woman to be the World Champion, and she is also the oldest.

Vote for Michelle at http://www.freevote.booth/clandjoe.

Yesterday (March 26) was the ladies short program, and Michelle Kwan was in the final group of skaters, 5th to skate. She started off with a successful but a bit off balance triple lutz-double toe combination. She went for the double axel, but she leaned too far back, and fell onto the ice. Her last jump, a triple toe-loop, was very solid. She is now in fourth place, and hopes to improve today in the long program. For Michelle to win the Worlds this year, Maria Butyrskaya has to place 3rd or lower in the free skate, and Michelle has to win the free skate. Michelle has been battling the flu, and she says now, she is close to 100%. Here are the current standings:
1. Maria Butryskaya - RUS
2. Yulia Soblatova - RUS
3. Vanessa Gusmeroli - FRA
4. Michelle Kwan - USA
5. Tatiana Malinia - PKS

There is a small picture of Michelle Kwan on the cover of Women's Sports Illustrated.

Michelle skipped Four Continents and the Grand Prix Final to prepare to go straight to the 1999 World Championships in Helsinki, Finnland. Michelle is thinking about upgrading her short program triple toe loop to a triple flip for the Worlds. Good luck, Michelle!

Michelle appeared on the Donny and Marie Show recently, and she wore a black dress, and talked! =)

Michelle was great throughout the whole show! Cast includes Karen Kwan, Elvis Stojko, Oksana Baiul, Ilia Kulik.

Michelle Kwan won her third National title, becoming the first woman to since Jill Trenary. She skated a flawless short program, and a graceful and athletic long program, except she fell on her second triple lutz. I'm not sure, it looked like she rushed her takeoff, and didn't get her toe pick in the ice very steadily, and she still got her triple-triple combination, and six triples!! To read an article about her in the Nationals, please click here.
