Chair of the Department of Social Work, Zhejiang Gongshang University, Hangzhou , China.

I studied Social Sciences and Sociology at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, studied English and German at Guangzhou Foreign Languages Institute. I was appointed as a Research Fellow of Social Sciences by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in 1980. I was promoted as Professor in 1997.

From March 1991 to April 1992, I was a Visiting Scholar at the Institute of Sociology, University of Oldenburg, Germany; from January 1996 to June 1996, I was a Visiting Professor at the School of Social Work, University of Georgia in USA; from June 1996 to October 1996, I was Visiting Scholar at the Fairbank Center for East Asian Studies, Harvard University in USA; and from March 1998 to June 1998, I was a Senior Visiting Fellow at the International Institute for Asian Studies, Netherlands. All these international fellowships not only gave me great opportunities to strength my links to scholars in other countries, but also provide me the opportunities to introduce my research and contemporary China's situation.

I am interested in a wide range of subjects that related to cross-cultural sociological studies and social development in general . Currently with an emphasis on the sociology of family, social work, ageing studies and development studies.

I am the author of 12 books. I am also the author of more than 200 research papers which were printed in Chinese and other languages. Eight of these papers have been published in "International Social Work" and other international journals.

I have got 21 years research experience at Zhejiang Academy of Social Sciences and teaching experience at university level. Currently I was appointed as Advisor of Master Degree of Sociology in Zhejiang Nornal University, and as Assessor of research grant application in several fields of China.

I am a Director member of the Chinese Society for Human Rights Studies (Beijing), Deputy Director of Research Centre for Women and Family Studies (Hangzhou) .

I welcome international research collaboration in social work educational program, development studies, and contemporary China studies.
