YULE or WINTER SOLSTICE- December 21 or 22- Also known as Finn's Eve.
Yule is a celebration of the rebirth of the God as he returns and
brings warmth and fertility to us humans. One should leave lights
burning throughoutthe night as it is supposed to lure him out of his
Mother. There is a legend that goes along with this holiday. IT is of
the Oak King and the Holly King. The two were fighting and the Oak
King surpressed the Holly King. Witches see the Holly King as Father
Christmas. As he wears his red and his hat with holly and also driving
is sleigh with eight deer. The eight represents the eight Sabbats and
the deer represent the horned God. Witches still have a tree but we
see this tree as a "wish" tree. All of our wishes go into the tree
and the all hang in the arms of the universe. Pine represents the
Goddess because this tree does not die throughout the winter months.
One should save part of the trunk for the Yule log the next year.
The wreath is a symbol of the Wheel of the Year and the items place
on it should represent the things you wish the new year to bring up
until the next yule. Witches DO NOTcopy the christian celebration of
Christmas as early Christian scholars could not come up with an
accurate date of Christ's birth. The Christian church was trying to
convert the Pagan population, so the Church took our date and
incorporated it as the birth date of Christ.
