TENNIS   BALL   BEAT

Warm up for Heart activities/dicussion:

1. Give each student a tennisball.
2. Instruct students that they should try and bounce the ball with the beat.
3. Play some slower music with an easier beat to find.(30 sec.)
4. Now put on some faster and current music selections(30 sec./ea)
5. Have the kids try and do arm curls to the beat with the ball.
6. Make sure to use both arms.
7. Try some tricep curls as well.
8. Next just have the students squeeze the ball as hard as they can.
9. Ask them not to switch hands until the first hand start to get tired.
10.NOW it is time to compare to the heart.
11. >The heart is about the size of this tennisball.
12. >Did you hand get tired while squeezing?  
13. >Your heart squeezes your blood almost like you were squeezing the ball.
14. >Do you think your heart gets tired like your hand did? IT CAN'T.
15. >YOUR HEART is a special muscle, which pumps blood through your body,
 24 hours a day all your life. The blood goes to all the parts of your body.
16. >What have we talked about that can measure your heart rate?
17. >REMEMBER your heart never sleeps 
so we have to exercise it to keep it STRONG !!!
18. Aerobic type exercises can help to strengthen your heart.
