  Be prepared days in advance. Don't let draft day be the first time you've looked at your Fantasy Hockey magazines.
  
  Be conservative, let others draft the majority of the rookies (Brendl-nyr), often injured (Koivu-mtl), & hold-outs (Yashin-ott), and players that never live up to expectations (Mogilny-van).
  
  Get at least 2-3 sources; never use only 1 fantasy hockey source. Combine the info of sources like McKEEN'S HOCKEY POOL YEARBOOK, Hockey Pool Guide Book, Slam! Sports Forecaster & The Hockey New's Ultimate Pool Guide. Read between the lines.
  
  Know the rules of the pool you are entering. Often some positions are more valuable; I won my pool because goalies were the most valuable last year (I had Hasek-buf).
  
  Do your draft as if you were doing a Final Exam. Don't cram, be relaxed and have a game plan. If possible rank the players in order.
  
  Be flexible at the draft, but try to limit changes to your strategy.
  
  Pick any player, whether you like him or not.
  
  Get a copy of the Pool's teams from last season. Look at what the teams have that won, compared to the others.
  
  Keep track of the stats, it will be invaluable for any Re-Drafts and next season.
  
  Ignore the playoffs (Dave Reid from Dallas scored at nearly twice the rate he usually does during the regular season) and put little stock in the preseason stats.
