The band was initially called White Chocolate. They were a
Fairfield County, CT based band that played predominately
throughout the East Coast. The original line-up was Charlie Karp
on Guitar, David Hull on Bass and Jimmy Maher on Drums. The name
was later changed to Dirty Angels and a change was made to the
line-up, with the addition of George Maher on Rhythmn Guitar.
Charlie Karp has an impressive musical background. Starting out
as a young teen with Buddy Miles, he has also performed with the
likes of Jimi Hendrix, Aerosmith, Meatloaf, Arthur Lee, Charlie
Karp and the Namedroppers, Buster Poindexter and is now a member
of Slo Leak along with Danny Kortchmar and Harvey Brooks. If you
haven't had the pleasure of hearing Charlie play, you owe it to
yourself to get his solo album "Charlie Karp" or the Slo Leak
album. His is an example of the finest Blues guitar as well as
Rock. In my opinion he is definitely among the Top 10 guitarists
of our time.
David Hull is equally an impressario of the Bass. He also started
out as a youth with Buddy Miles. His credits include Arthur Lee,
the Joe Perry Project, Ted Nugent, Farrenheit (he used the
pseudonym of Dave Heit), and most recently Pete Droge and the
Sinners. Do yourself a favor and give him a listen, as he is one
of the best Bass Players I've ever had the pleasure to hear and
know.
Jimmy Maher was an excellent drummer and his contribution to the
band was sizeable. Unfortunately I've lost track of what he is
currently involved with.
George Maher was a spirited addition to the band. He has since
gone on to perform in The Shivers and The Dollars. Both were
Boston based bands of note. Interestingly both bands included
brothers of David Hull, Chris Hull a wonderful bass player in his
own right, Matt Hull a singular vocalist, and Peter Hull
guitarist extraordinaire.
