Ethan    Rayne

Ethan is a sinister character from Gile's youth. They were a part of a circle that dabbled in the occult and summoned a demon named Eyghon who possesed one of their associates. Ethan must have come back into Gile's life only to cause him misery. We first see him in "Halloween" in which he owns a shop that sells costumes which are cursed by the the god Janus. We next see him in "The Dark Ages" in which he and Giles are stalked by the demon Eyghon. Giles feels lots of remorse because he brought Eyghon into the world so he tells Buffy to stay out of this battle he must fight it himself. Ethan tatoos the Mark of Eyghon onto Buffy and removes his tatoo with acid so that Eyghon will stalk her. Eyghon is defeated by Giles and Ethan disappears. We next see him in "Band Candy" in which he, the Mayor, and Principal Snyder hatch a plan to distribute candy bars throughout the school that gives whoever eats them the feeling that they're teens again. Buffy stops Ethan and he takes off. Ethan is next seen in "a New Man" when he turns Giles into Eyghon. Although in the end he is found and reverses his spell on Giles, he is captured by the Initiative and taken to a detention center in the Nevada desert.
