Giles
Giles comes from a long line of watchers his father and grandmother
were also watchers.He was told when he was 10 he would become one
diminishing his hopes of being a fighter pilot or grocer.He went to
Oxford University,where one of his friends,Carlyle Ferris,fought a
She-mantis and lost.Giles later rejected his destiny and dabbled in
the occult,he and his friends summoned a demon named Eyghon to earth.
Only 2 of that group still survive Giles and Ethan Raye all the others
were killed by Eyghon.Although he no longer practices witchcraft he
has proven to be useful in spellcasting.He was the curator at a museum
in England before being Buffy's Watcher.He plays the guitar,can read 5
languages,has some skill in fencing and in shooting a tranquilizer
gun and lists cross-referencing as one of his hobbies.Giles is now
Sunnydale High's librarian.Principal Flutie gave him the discretion to
pick any books for the library including books on demons and
witchcraft.Giles has fallen in love before to Romany techno-pagan
Jenny Calendar but some things got in the way.(Eyghon possesing
Jenny's body,Jenny watching Angel,and Angel murdering Jenny)Giles
seems to be physically strong seeing he was knocked out a couple
of times and was tortured by Angel also Jenny shot him with a cross-
bow. Shortly before Buffy's eighteenth birthday Giles was to take her powers away rendering herself defenseless to a crazed vampire on the loose as her test. He couldnt help seeing Buffy and her family being hurt so he went to help her. When the Watcher's Guild heard of this they fired him. Buffy got a new watcher and Giles helped him by giving advice. Giles now lives by himself and is enjoying the single, jobless life but occasionally helps Buffy with her college problems vampires and homework. Buffy recently asked Giles to become her Watcher again and he agreed. He recently bought and now owns the magic shop. Giles is played by Anthony Stewart Head.
