VIETNAM INFORMATION
The Vietnam War was the longest in our nation's history. Approximately 2.7 million Americans served in the warzone; 300,000 were wounded and approximately 75,000 permanently disabled. There are 2,089 veterans still missing and unaccounted for as of June 4, 1998. 1,559 in Vietnam, 447 in Laos, 75 in Cambodia, and 8 in territorial water of the People's Republic of China. Over 80% of those lost in Laos and 90% of those unaccounted for in Cambodia are missing in areas under the control of the Vietnamese Government at the time of loss. To date, the Vietnamese have provided summary documents on some of these cases, but have not responded to numerous requests for case-specific documents used to compile the summaries.
