PROFILE

Tony De Ambrosis entered the league in 1992 with the Sydney Kings and in his 19 games got limited oppportunities. His court time increased slightly in 1993 but still the talented small foward was only averaging 5.4ppg aand 2.4rpg. People started doubted Tony's future in the NBL. But he got a secong chance and a fresh start at the Gold Coast where he immediatly improved. His averages shot up to 11.8ppg and 5.7rpg and he was shooting the ball at 61%. He again improved in 1995 improving his scoring and rebounding. His averages for 1995 were 14.7ppg and 6.6rpg. He was injured imjured for the first 6 games and then shot out of the blocks and set himself up for a big year in 1996. He delivered giving front court support to import centre Chad McClendon. For the first time in his career he broke the twenty and ten barrier and was to be a prized free agent. Little did he know free agency would be his only option. The Rollers disbanded and De Ambrosis was shattered. Newly married he wanted to stay on thge Coast, he lived there and was eager to stay. However a player of De Ambrosis's talent could not simply play in the C.B.A so he started fielding offers from overseas clubs and N.B.L clubs. De Ambrosis was keen to stay in Queensland which left him with two options, Brisbane and Townsville. The Bullets were closer to his home but Townsville had a better offer for him, so he chose Townsville. The Suns's import big man Clarence Tyson had a monopoly on the centre spot so De Ambrosis would have to compete with Shane Froling and Grant Krugar for the starting Power Foward spot. Tony had his time starting but coach Mark Bragg decided to go with Krugar for the most part and Tony had a dissapointing season when compared to 1996. However with the retirement of Froling and the injury to Clarence Tyson, Tony will get more opportunities to return to his previous form.
