PROFILE
Phil Doherty is a young player in much the same mould as Andrew Vlahov. If the Twent One Year Old works hard the Wildcats have big plans for him. In his three NBL seasons court time has been scarce playing behind Perths Wall for court time. He has averaged 2.9ppg and 1.7rpg but those numbers should increase in the next few years. He suffered an ankle injury last season and that really slowed his progress. Many teams have showed intrest in Doherty and he is considering leaving the Wildcats in 1998. However Phil would like to stay with Perth, he grew up there and has played most of his basketball there. Phil played with the Perry Lakes Hawks SBL club until moving to Canberra to attend the Australian Institute of Sport in 1994. He has represented Western Australia at under 16, under 18 and under 20 level, and was part of the Australia's Silver Medal winning team at the World Junior Championships in 1995. Phil was also a member of the Gold Medal winning Australian under 23 team that won Gold in front of a capacity Melbourne Park crowd.
