Steve Woodberry poured in 33 points as the Brisbane Bullets thrashed the visiting Cannons.

Bullets Thrash cannons by 32 points

Posted: Fri Oct 9, 1998 at 10:02 PM ET

The Brisbane Bullets have made an impressive start to their 1998 Summer season campaign with a 110-78 drubbing of the strife torn Canberra Cannons at the Brisbane Convention Centre. The Bullets recovered from a horrible start (20-19 down at quarter time) to take over in the second quarter with Steve Woodberry racking up 11 points in the first 4 minutes of the quarter. leroy Loggins was also in fine form as the Bullets blew it out to a 14 point lead midway through the second quarter. The Cannons were getting very little production out of anybody with the exception of Mike Mckay who kept the Bullets honest with his outside shooting. Brisbane continued to control the tempo and when Steve Woodberry hit a three with seconds remaining the Bullets went into the half time break leading 55-38.

The third quarter saw much of the same from the Bullets, Steve Woodberry and leroy Loggins both on target from the outside. The Cannons were out of sync and never looked like closing the gap, the Bullets pushing the lead to over 20. The third quarter ended in spectacular fashion as ben Knight stole the ball at his own three point line, fading away from the oposing basket, he heaved it up with one hand, narrowly missing the microphones on the roof and hit the shot, nothing but net. The Bullets were on a high and after that they could do no wrong. Steve Woodberry reached the thirty point mark with 8:00 to go, Thaddeous Delaney excited the fans with 2 massive slams, and the Bullets ran away with the game. The Canberra Cannons showed little resistance in the final quarter, with both teams running their benches. The top scorer for the game was Steve Woodberry who had 33.
