Jewel was born on a 800 acre homestead in Homer, Alaska. This home was a place with no shower, no TV, and a bathroom was a cold room outside of the house. Jewel had few luxuries but in her home you could always hear music. Her mom started teaching her and her 2 brothers the art of music and poetry at an early age. Wherever Jewel goes, she takes along with her a jar full of soil from her yard. Jewel started singing with her parents who were a singer/songwriter duo at an early age. Her routine soon became a main attraction of their act. When her parents divorced, Jewel kept singing with her father until her junior year of high school. Then she went to Michigan Interlochen Fine Arts Academy. Here she explored different types of things including learning how to play the guitar. After her graduation, she moved to San Diego which she now considers her hometown. Here she decided she didn't want to attend college and moved into her van with a diet of carrots and peanut butter. She soon started landing gigs at coffeehouses where she attracted a lot of people. This is where she was discovered. Her debut album entitled "Pieces of You" includes some recordings of her in these coffeehouses. This album has 14 songs which you can easily relate to. She is soon releasing her 2nd album which is due out in November. She is also releasing a movie due out this fall. As you can see I think Jewel is a great pop singer. Her songs have depth to them and she has a beautiful voice. I hope you like this page that I dedicated to her.
