Mysore - Part 2
The majestic
Brindavan Gardens is a big place which
is one of its kind. With dozens of types of fountains, including
the musical fountains, this is one of the busiest attractions in Mysore.
At night, the entire Brindavan Gardens comes to life, with vivid colured
lights in the fountains. These are few of the photos of Krishna
Raja Sagar. Krishna Raja Sagar is the name for the dam accompanying
the Brindavan Gardens. Built in 1924 by Sir M Vishveshwariah (Sir Mokshagundam
Vishveshwariah), this complex compising of the dam and Brindavan Gardens
has stood the test of time. Considered as one of the engineering marvels
in that time, this dam continues to be the life-line of the farmers around
that area. In the photo below left, the giant red fountain is the
musical fountain.
During the reign of the Mysore kings, the Dussehra became popular.
During those days the maharjah himself used to ride on the golden throne
(Ambari) on the most majestic elephant. The entire cavalry including the
music band, elephants horses would take part in it. Below is the photo
of a more recent Dussehra procession, coming out of the palace gates. The
elephant can be seen carrying the idol of goddess chamundi.
