He
came. He saw. He conquered is the best way to describe veteran rocker's
NANDU BHENDE'S first performance in Pune in years. For starters the Pune
Times music columnist was mobbed at the entrance of Jazz Garden on
Saturday night by autograph book-toting fans who said they swore by his
weekly column on PT's Just Jammin page.
This pony-tailed rocker was smiling from ear to ear when he said "This kind of fan following makes you feel good. I am so glad to perform in Pune after so many years." With support from the likes of KEITH VEGAS on the lead guitar, keyboard player BEN FERNANDEZ ,bassist KEITH PINTO and drummer WILLY (founder member of the Indipop Band Mantra). the show organized by Pune's Indian Magic Eye |

That is what Nandu Bhende, music star of yesteryear's,is.Just measure
some of his sound bytes. In 1973,on a cold wintry night at Malavli near
Lonavala,he had the flower-power generation in a trance,as he belted out
Beatles' covers in the company of Remo and Darryl Mendonca.
In 1978,he gave quite a few elderly Maharastrians in Pune palpitations, as he introduced them to marathi rock music with hit number Zeenat,in Pu La Deshpande's Teen paisyacha tamasha . 1982 saw him bring out the first few of his Hindi remix albums, titled Disco Duniya and Disco Nasha.Cut to year 2001 and Bhende is still at it. "Ethnic cool", is what Bhende likes to call it and he is of the opinion," that we must love ourselves and the music."(Continued......) |

A
peppy Saturday night it was and Pune's music lovers turned out in large
numbers to witness the one and only Nandu Bhende perform at Grease on
November 10.
Backed by his illustrations band, the music-stalwart rocked the house with all his experience, crooning numbers such as Nights in white satin,Light my fire and Road-house blues just to name a few .His Beatles' section which included songs like From me to you and Norwegian wood, went down particularly well with the audience, who at the end of it all, were truly mesmerized by Nandu's class Like they say..never too old to rock'n'roll. |
