![]() 18 March 99 Thursday Two weeks since my last entry. Where have I been? I've been writing... I've also been reevaluating my goals. I enjoy writing. But I hate the isolation that comes with having to spend a lot of time alone doing it. I have decided that, for me, devoting my time exclusively to writing would be a mistake. Therefore, I am going to develop my career as a script consultant. For many years I ran a writers' group, helping writers develop their scripts. I knew a lot about storytelling and structure going in, and I learned a lot more from working with the group. I enjoyed the work, and I have a talent for it. Now, I would like to make it my profession. So, that is what I'm going to do. It will take a lot of work, but I believe I can make it a success. It's something I want to do; it's something that I can believe in, and I can picture both the career and my own success clearly in my mind's eye. I have begun taking steps to turn the picture in my mind into reality. I'll keep you posted on my progress.
Monday last I was watching the Comedy Awards. Barry Levinson got a Lifetime Achievement Award, and in his speech he commented on the beginning of his own writing career. His uncle, a business man, asked him how the writing was going, and when he told him he had written a lot of pieces but hadn't sold any, his uncle said, "Well... at least you've got inventory." At least I've got inventory.
