John P. Zawitoski was born and raised just outside
Baltimore, Maryland. Being one of seven children, he learned at an
early age the importance of family, friends and a sense of community.
As a young man, he developed a great love for the outdoors, the
reverence of nature and the desire to commit his life to preserving
those most precious resources. To achieve this goal, he successfully
studied Forestry and Agriculture at Allegany College and the
University of Maryland. His professional career began with the
Maryland Department of Agriculture where he was responsible for
developing and implementing programs to protect one of Maryland’s most
precious natural resources, The Chesapeake Bay. He also spent
several years with the United States Department of Agriculture in
which he furthered his career in public service. Today, John works
for the Montgomery County Department of Economic Development where he
proudly administers the most successful land preservation program in
the United States. He is the father of three boys and they are now
his most precious natural resource and the pride of both mother and
father.
