Dear Speech Teams,

We are pleased to extend this invitation to the 2001 McMinnville Invitational Tournament on Saturday, January 27 to you and your team.  Hopefully, the information provided in this packet answers any questions and helps you prepare for your trip to McMinnville.

Individual Events

We will offer three rounds of competition in individual events, Junior and Senior Divisions, plus finals.  Small events may be collapsed into an Open Division.  Speakers may register for only one event per pattern, no conflicts.

Pattern A:  Humorous Interp., Oratory, Dramatic Interp, and Radio

Pattern B:  Poetry, ADS, Duo Interp, and Expos

Debate

We will also be offering Public Debate managed by Eric Parker, assistant coach at Madison High.  Debaters are guaranteed four rounds, with hidden semis during the fourth round.  The final debate will take place before an audience in the auditorium preceding awards.  Debaters will choose from three topics prior to each round. Debate runs simultaneously with Pattern A individual events.  No conflicts, of course, are allowed, however, debaters are encouraged to compete in Pattern B.

Talent Show

Hooray for our fourth annual talent show!  The first four interested teams to register will be included in our post-debate/pre-awards talent show.  Acts may not exceed five minutes.  Order of performance will be decided during the mandatory  lunch time rehearsal.  We reserve the right of final approval before the show, so please keep performances tasteful and worthy of our audience.  Awards will be given to all participants and the winning act receives a bag of goodies for their team's bus ride home.

Fees

School registration fee is $18.00.  $3.00 entry fee per individual event slot.  (Duo teams count as one entry.)  Fee per debate team is $6.00.

Judging

Please supply one judge for every eight (8) entries.  There is a judge fee of $15.00 for every eight entries, or portion thereof, not covered.  Coaches will not judge the first round of competition.  Please bring judges with debate “capabilities” this year; our community judge pool is inexperienced in this realm.

Rules

OSAA rules will be used.  Memorized events should be memorized; however, scripted competitors will not automatically be disqualified.

Deadlines

Please fax or email (preferred method) all entries to arrive by Wednesday, January 24.  Any changes must be made by 3:00 on Thursday, January 25th.  No adds will be accepted after that point.

Food

We have scheduled a brief lunch break.  Happily, the MHS Band will be offering good grub all day long.  There are restaurants within walking distance as well (Shari's, Skippers, Artic Circle, etc.).

Looking forward to seeing you on the 27th!
